Agecroft Hall was an English Tudor manor that was purchased by some extremely wealthy folks in the early 20th century, dismantled, and reassembled in Richmond, Virginia. The architecture is amazing. The grounds contain formal gardens as well as an expanse of lawn and trees with glimpses of the James River. The interior is dark wood and offers an education on English life in the era of Elizabeth I as well as commentary on how the Virginia owners molded part of the house to suit their "modern" needs. Visiting around Christmas is a real treat.

Not a ton to see but if you're a history buff you will enjoy this. Lovely gardens and James River vistas. If you like Shakespeare go in the summer when you get to picnic on their lawn and then enjoy their usually quite good renditions of the plays.

In an area where there are many wonderful homes of the 18th and 19th century to tour, Agecroft Hall offers a different perspective on the historic home. Built in England in the 15th century, this authentic Tudor home was brought to Richmond in pieces and reassembled in the early 1930s. Very knowledgeable docent added to a very fun and enlightening tour.

She's 11 and has toured this place 5 times! She's learned a lot about medieval England. In the summer, the gardens are great, so bring a cooler and picnic after your tour. In December, their holiday festival is the best bargain in town. My favorite are the outdoor Shakespeare prefomances in June & July.

Most people I spoke with either didn't know about this or hadn't been there which is a real shame. The story about how a real Tudor mansion ended up in Richmond is great and the things that you learn on the tour were great fun. The house has been furnished with items from the 1400 - 1600's which is incredible on its own.
