The Fan is so named because if you look at the layout on a map, the streets are "fanned" out. This is the trendy part of Richmond. Lots of nice, older homes. The bars are restaruants are low key, but fun.

If you are visiting Richmond, a drive or stroll through the Fan is a must. It is comprised of beautiful old homes, parks, and tree-lined streets that are home to a vibrant community of students, young professionals, and families. Hidden down side streets, you will find locally owned cafes and shops. When many people think of Richmond, the Fan is what first comes to mind.

The Fan District is one of the best places to visit on your trip to Richmond. I was fortunate to live in one of these historic houses..built in 1913 for 12 years. If you are luck y to be in the area in December check out the historic house tour.

The Fan District in Richmond is so eclectic! It has great architecture, great restaurants, great shops, funky things to buy, as well as really run down areas as well. You are definitely in the city of Richmond, but the streets are fun, alot of fabulous places to check out, to walk up and down the streets, the VCU School is here, and just a great experience to check out their campus, as well as all the cool houses, buildings, and the people that are down there.
