Monument Avenue is a great place to see Richmond's architecture and experience local food establishments. The monuments are a unique representation of Richmond's role during the Civil War and make Monument Avenue a well-known landmark of the City.

We visit Monument Avenue every December to look at the Christmas decorations that the residents use to adorn the exteriors of their homes. The festival of ribbons, ornaments, and lights warrants a walking tour...simply driving down Monument Avenue does not allow you to take in all that is on display. Although December 2013 was a disappointment - very few decorations were put out - I hope this was only a fluke and not a trend. They have become as much of a Richmond tradition as the monuments!

Monument Ave is a great place to stroll and check out some of the beautiful Historic houses,I believe if you park around the 21 hundred block ( st parking is usually available) and walk up to around the 34 hundred block...those are some of the nicer homes on the long avenue. Architecturally many of the homes are quite beautiful and some of my favorite houses in Richmond. There are also Statues of "Robert E Lee " and "stone wall" Jackson for those who are into the confederate hero's. Also the latest addition is a statue of "Arthur ash" The tennis legion ..which when built caused a huge controversy as many believed it was built way to small and with wrong proportions. In comparison to the other statues on The avenue I agree as it does seem a lot smaller. But hey every one has an opinion..so you decide..
Great place for a stroll...

Monument Avenue is just west of downtown and worth the visit. Beautiful, well maintained houses line the streets in this park-like area. The statues are of Richmond famous people, including the obligatory statue of Robert E. Lee, and surprisingly, tennis champion, Arthur Ashe.

Great drive en route to Cary Town and Hollywood Cemetery, have your camera ready...my kids loved the monuments, as well as the historic architecture in the community!
