There is no reason not to go.
The museum is pretty, the ground is pretty. The art is great with a huge section on East Asian.
The restaurant and cafe are pretty.
The museum is free.
Parking is $5.00 but you can find street parking. Or you can park at the Historical Museum and walk over.

We love the variety of exhibits at VMFA!! What's even better is that it's free! We went on a Sunday morning, and it wasn't crowded at all. We were fascinated by all there is to see--not just European art, but art from all over the world. It was incredible to see and learn about silver smithing, to see all the beautiful jewelry from different periods and regions, sculptures, masks, furniture--it's all there for you to explore. Take advantage of this incredible opportunity right in our own back yard!

Beautiful lighting, spacious areas and a terrific selection in the gift shop makes this a fun destination. Loved the Chihuly exhibit but other art displays were well done.

Love the VMFA and all the arts and culture. Gorgeous museum best in town! Amuse is wonderful too! Love the Friday night wine events and all the variety in exhibits you all provide to us here in Virgnia!

We became members after visiting this museum a few times and really enjoying their displays and wanting to support them. They have an incredibly diverse collection - not just the usual European art. Lots of jewelry, stained glass windows, sculptures, a fascinating furniture collection(can't believe what some people had in their homes!), glass, etc. Very worldly with Asian, African, as well as Euorpean/American art, recent small photography section. They recently had the Chihuly glass exhibit which seemed a little steep at $20/person (gen admit free but special exhibits are extra if you aren't a member) but that was the benefit of membership - we went twice for free! Generally quiet (if not necessarily in the lobby, definitely up in the actual galleries). We have also relaxed in the Amuse restaurant for afternoon snacks/drinks. Prices are a little steep there but there's no sense of hurry and you can feel free to lounge with a cup of coffee. There's also a less formal eatery on the main floor.
