“Gem along the River”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 1, 2014

Took my 3.5 year old grandson to the farm and Nature Center. He was thrilled to meet the goats and sheep and to feed the animals with pellets which are for sale. We did not have a stroller but he was energetic and was able to walk for two hours around the grounds. He loved the Nature Center and was fascinated by the James River otters and pointy nosed fish(sturgeon?). He enjoyed interacting with the other children who were visiting. He is too young to pay attention to the information which is written but he did enjoy all the many different tanks of fish.

“A full day's interest.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 31, 2013

Maymont is a delightful visitor's destination with four separate experiences to appeal to different interests. My wife and spent at least 8 hours there spread across two days to dodge the rain while outdoors. The nature trail and farmlands have a range of birds and animals for viewing and feeding. The ornamental gardens give a taste of what life was like for early 20th century millionaires. The nature center focuses on the James River to give insight in to that water shed and the fish to be found there.
Finally a guided tour of Maymont House fills in the history and life style of the estate's designers and occupants. All for a suggested donation of $12 or more. Remarkably good value.

“A visual delight”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 29, 2013

I visit Maymont a few times annually to enjoy the Japanese gardens, walk through the well-landscaped park filled with majestic trees and nature, and for children, a farm and an area for injured, rehabilitated animals. It is always visually appealing and a refreshing stroll through the area that was once the plantation of the Dooleys who generously donated this land to the City of Richmond. I highly recommend a visit to this breathtaking park.

“A prime destination”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 22, 2013

A while back I had gone up to Swananoa, what's left standing of the Dooleys' summer home. The result was that I was in rush to visit Maymont. What a mistake! Maymont's grounds are expansive and immaculately kept; the house is well preserved and gives visitors a window into the Gilded Age. Walking through the Italian and Japanese gardens is simply a pleasure.

“Perfect Spot to Spend the Day”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 6, 2013

Maymont is a large and beautiful park right in the city. The visitor center is really nice; it is interactive and appealing to all ages. At one end is a large window into a pool where otters swim. Kids and adults enjoy watching them. Beyond the visitor's center, there is also a farm with animals, black bears in another area, bald eagles, a mansion and the lovely grounds which include a Japanese tea garden. It is a great place to spend an afternoon or an entire day.
