We stumbled upon this tour one Sunday evening while strolling down the Canal Walk. A tour was just about to pull out, and our guide stopped to allow us time to buy tickets and hop on. The price was pretty cheap ($5 for adults), and well worth the price of the history and scenery we saw. The tour guide was engaging and knowledgeable, and gave an interesting account of the origins of the canal system in Richmond up until their displacement by the railroads. The tour was fast (approximately 45 minutes), but we learned a lot, and got to see a part of the city we would never have otherwise visited. I really think this tour is a worthwhile venture, for both residents of Richmond and people visiting town.

Inexpensive ($6 each) pleasant historical cruise on the Richmond canal. Runs every hour on the hour.

The tour was very nice and informative but our tour guide was a little scruffy! You can tell he has given this tour MANY times. Some of us almost fell asleep. We also noticed an odor as we passed by him. It is a unique treasure for Richmond, VA!

Please be aware that there are no public restrooms for this activity.

I recently got this deal on Groupon and tried it out. When I got there it was about a 30 min break before the boat left so we walked around the Canal Walk. When boarding you see how tight it is. You are knee to knee with the person directly accross from you. There is a bench in the middle with 2 sides and then chairs surounding the outside. If someone is larger or obese they are spilling over into your chair. Not comfortable for the 40 mins

Recently took the canal cruise (we've lived here 13 years and never did it). Went early morning and had a delightful time. Excellent canal guide with lots of great stories and enthusiasm and a wonderful story telling voice that made you want to hear more. Very patient also since there were many photography buffs on board.
