“Comfortable stay”
Reviewed June 18, 2013

I stayed here one night, mid-week, for a business trip. It's conveniently located in downtown Richmond, close to State offices and not far from VCU. The front desk staff was very friendly and at breakfast, a manager greeted me and asked about my stay. The breakfast was actually quite nice for a casual buffet, with a good variety of food.

The room was a standard, mid-range hotel room: clean, comfortable, and quiet. Large bathroom, refrigerator and microwave, and free wi-fi. Couldn't ask for much more!

We stayed this weekend in the a whirlpool tub suite. The room is huge, with a jacuzzi tub off to the side of the large living room. There is also a tub and shower in the bathroom, but this is a nice romantic getaway, for a price you can't beat! The bedroom hasdoors you can shut off from the living room, and there are two large flat screens (one bed, one living) with DirectTV.

Breakfast is standard for any hotel in this price range with the free breakfast.

Parking is $10 for the connected garage for hotel guests, (if you have an SUV, note that the clearance they show at 6' is actually a litter higher but there is also a lot behind the hotel to accommodate oversize vehicles.

The area is very convenient to shockoe bottom and shockoe slip, tons of bars, restaurants, etc....we drove but the hotel does have a free shuttle.

My only complaint was that we were in town and I called at 1pm to see if we could check in early. Before asking my name to see we had a 'specialty' room reserved, Cheryl at the front desk said we'd be able to check in early at 2pm. When we arrived at 2pm, she said the room wouldn't be ready until 3pm (normal check-in time). Not a huge deal, but we scheduled our afternoon around the 2pm check in, then had to change plans b/c she didn't take 2 min to check on our actual room. Not a huge deal, but annoying.

The bed was very comfortable. They should put better pillows on their king beds though--a bit too small for a king bed.

If you stay here, I HIGHLY recommend ordering Bottoms Up Pizza if you're looking for take-out. They deliver right to the room, and it was fantastic!

My hubby and I recently stayed at this hotel for the NASCAR race weekend. The location of the hotel was great, it was downtown where there were lots of things within walking distance, yet easy in and out to the outlying areas of Richmond, including Richmond International Raceway. Staff were very accommodating upon check in. The only thing we didn't have in our room was a suitcase stand, which did take a few hours to get, but other than that, we settled in. We had a corner room, which was also a smoking room - thank you for still allowing smokers to stay in nicer hotels! The room was one of the largest I have stayed in before. Even though the hotel was an older property, it was very well kept up. The room was very clean and housekeeping service was also very good! Parking, as with any downtown hotel locations was a challenge. They do have a parking garage under the hotel which is very tight parking...and they charge $10 per day. We were in a Surburban and our fit was very tight, and could only get to certain spaces in the basement. There are minimal outside spots behind the garage, but they were always full.

Room Tip: Corner rooms are very roomy. Parking can be an issue in larger vehicles.

What a delightful experience we had last weekend (3/14-3/15) at the Holiday Inn Express downtown Richmond, VA.!! We were there for a conference and 11 of us stayed at this hotel. From Lorna Battles who helped us secure great rates to Taylor at the front desk who helped us register effortlessly, to Kevin and Monique who shuttled us back and forth to the convention center, to Mary Wells the general manager who took it upon herself personally to see to it that we ate at a fabulous Thai restaurant and had everything we needed to make our stay outstanding!! We will be back next year if not sooner!!!! Wonderful experience!!

Our overnight stay was average. The room was very plain. It looked like they stuck a bed and chair in a room at the last minute. There were some unfinished repairs, but it seemed clean. The hotel was conveniently located close to lots of restaurants. Parking was also conveniently located. The breakfast left a lot to be desired. Friendly and helpful staff.

Room Tip: We could see the city from our room. We didnt notice any guest or outside noise or funny smells so o...

About what you would expect. We had a nice large room on the top floor, great view. The room had a fridge and microwave in it. It was also nice to have a smoking room. Great location, short walk to the activities we were attending downtown. Had other friends staying nearby at other, pricier hotels. After seeing their rooms I was even happier.

The room was very clean. Dealt with four separate people at the front desk. 2 were very helpful, 2 were not. I booked because I was told there would be a shuttle to a local event, when checking in the person told me the same. Got ready to leave was told shuttle did not run on the weekend. Luckily I had my car. The other thing coffee pot did not work. The other two members of the staff were friendly. The breakfast was very good. Had several options. Great cinnamon rolls. Because of lack of location not sure I would stay there again. To far to get to places to eat.

Room Tip: Ask for room with a view.
