Owner description: Inside the white, columned state capitol building, designed by Thomas Jefferson to resemble a first-century Roman temple in France, is the only sculpture of George Washington produced in his lifetime.

This is an old building that has been renovated several times. If you like American history, you will be happy you took the time to see this amazing place. Many recent movies shot using this building. Parking is usually a challenge. Not a problem if you don't mind walking.

Recently I attended a luncheon for me for my 10th Anniversary Lucheon. I walked the Capitol having arrived early. Spend some time on the grounds and enjoy the statutes and the elegant look. The Governor's mansion is also on the grounds. The Commonwealth has gone through considerable expense to build a visitors entrance and the self guided or guided tours are recommended. It is well worth the time. Excellent gift shop!

We stopped in for a quick look and a large student group was just leaving. We happened to meet the director of the page program for the capital, who had been working with these students. He was very informative and friendly and shared a lot of information with us about the legislative protocol and the capital itself. The building has many lovely and interesting features, statues, and artifacts. Worth a visit when you're in Richmond. (We did not take a guided tour.)

the building itself was not the draw. the house and senate chambers can be viewed by the public. if a debate is going on, stay and listen from the gallery and see how an idea is debated and voted on.

We had a tour with a narrator. His description of who and what and when and where was motivating. I felt proud of my nation and the accomplishments they have made in this building. There are many interesting places just out side there windows as well. Go and feel proud. Take pictures of Marble statues standing proud and feel the wood where many have set and made our country the way it is. For children to learn and adults to experience this is the place where you know it all began.
