Owner description: Inside the white, columned state capitol building, designed by Thomas Jefferson to resemble a first-century Roman temple in France, is the only sculpture of George Washington produced in his lifetime.

The free tour around this building was absolutely fantastic! Mike made so many observations and made the entire history come alive for us. Would definately recommend this even if you are not an American history person.

Walk the halls of Mr. Jefferson's capital building and feel the history. Quite an historical experience.

Well worth the stop. Original building designed by Thomas Jefferson. Building refurbished starting in 2005 and completed in 2007. You may tour on your own or wait for tour guide. No charge.

I traveled to Richmond with the main purpose of visiting the Virginia Capitol Building. I was presently surprised to find that the building was open on a Saturday. No doubt this comes from the thought that the building truly belongs to the people of Virginia. And of course the two best know Virginians are prominently displayed: George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. I did not know that it was Mr. Jefferson actually designed plans for the original building. The local history museum had displays in the building and you can see the original senate and assembly rooms. Great place for history buffs like me. FYI: Not far away is the church where Patrick Henry gave his "Give me liberty or give me death" speech. I give thanks to the Commonwealth for a wonderful time.

I only walked around the outside of the building but it is a beautiful building and the grounds are well care for. It was neat to look at the statues lining the drive from the Capitol Building to the Executive Mansion. Great place for snapshots.
