I had not yet tried Calamari in my life and it is my husband's favorite. With the lovely restaurant guide from Grace Manor Inn we found The Water Grill. Their calamari is fried perfectly golden and served with a Saracha sauce and an orange type sauce, it was the best! Superb!

I have usually enjoyed my dining experiences here, until last night. From the confusion over our table (with a reservation made in advance), to the lukewarm, small entrees, this was a disappointing experience. To make matters worse, we were seated next to the "screaming baby" table which nearly ruined our evening. I finally had to ask the waitress for management to intervene, it was so awful and embarrassing. I would characterize this evening as one of almost total indifference on the part of Water Grill employees and a restaurant trying to exist on its past reputation and failing. Too many better options in Richmond to risk this one again.

My husband and I and 3 friends had a lovely meal at The Water Grill in Carytown.
The restaurant is quite hard to find tucked away between shops.
It has very nice decor and the staff were very friendly and helpful, thank you Colleen for your friendly service.
Luck was on our side as it was oyster night $7.95 for 12 natural oysters and were very flavoursome.
Starters: The crab cakes were moist and tasty, pumpkin soup nice and spicy. Starter scollops were large tender and full of flavour.
Mains: The blackened Mahi Mahi, coconut risotto, tropical fruit salsa and plantation chips was a great combination of flavours. Crab cakes served on a bed of mash with asparagus was very tasty. The scollops on wild mushroom risotto with truffle oil and asparagus was delicious.
The poached Maine lobster served with potatoes and fresh asparagus was moist and tender.
All in all a delicious meal.

Went during fall restaurant week and was not impressed. It seemed like there was a pound of lard in everything they made. I had the she crab soup and might have well just eaten a stick of butter instead. The pork chop was so-so, and served over mashed potatoes that had the density of lead. The atmosphere was okay - it seems to be a very popular place for twentysomethings. Service was slow and not especially friendly. There are better places to go.

We chose The Water Grill for our 19th anniversary and were disappointed. The seared tuna appetizer was the star of the meal - great quality and flavor as noted by previous diners on this site.
Ceasar salad and blackened mahi lacked flavor - the mahi was overcooked and I missed the coconut in the rice. Steak/lobster combo was cooked appropriately, but lacked flavor as well.

The real disappointment was the roach that crawled out of our bread basket across the table.
I should have scored this restaurant a 1 at best but gave them an additional point for handling the situation appropriately and comping our meal. Our server handled the situation gracefully. We were surprised the manager on duty did not make an appearance at the table; that would have seem appropriate in light of the situation.

Needless to say - we skipped dessert.
