“Great service!”
Reviewed May 11, 2013

Cute little cafe on the corner in the Fan. Great service and good food! They have a nice selection of sandwiches, salad, and soups and are always busy when we stop by. The waitress was very attentive and offered us more coffee and tea.

“Reluctant review for Garnett's...”
Reviewed April 21, 2013

This place has the best sandwich menu in town, hands down, with inventive & unique combinations. The menu is limited to sandwiches, soups, salads & desserts. Why the reluctant review? Because this charming corner cafe is tiny, and selfish me doesn't want you to get the last available table. Garnett's is quaint & intimate, so don't try to drag a large party along with you.
My mother, an excellent cook (except when it came to roast beef, which she always incinerated to kill germs), could also pack a lunch that made other kids at school envious, and that's what you'll get at Garnett's; sandwiches made with love. Their soups and salads are good, too, but their sandwiches have pride of place on the menu. Try to save room for dessert, though!
This wedge-shaped sliver of a restaurant can't accommodate many diners, so expect a wait. Take the time to stroll over to the small triangular neighborhood park across the street. Once you're seated & have placed your order, enjoy the eclectic collection of prints that adorn the walls. Garnett's is the sort of place that makes dining in the Fan a memorable Richmond experience.

“New favorite!”
Reviewed January 14, 2013

If I'm ever in the mood for a delicious sandwich and a cup of soup (which is pretty much all the time), I head straight for Garnett's Café. I had the grilled Gruyere sandwich with caramelized onions and pickled mushrooms. The sandwich was really yummy. I chose the black-eyed pea salad as my side. The salad was nicely seasoned with pimento peppers, but the beans were pretty hard, and I was worried that they weren't cooked through which can be very hard on the tummy. I probably wont be getting that side again. Luckily, there are plenty of side options which include kettle chips and french potato salad, or you can have the soup for $1 extra. For dessert I had a generous slice of chocolate cake and a mediocre cup of coffee. All in all it was a very nice experience. Keep in mind, this place is small. I went around 2:00 on a Saturday afternoon, and the only seating left was at the bar. It's not an ideal spot for groups of over 4 people.

“Garnett's is the cafe you have always wanted in your neighborhood”
Reviewed January 3, 2013

Garnett's is Feather's second startup, and it's as good as it is different from her equally successful establishments Ipanema and The Roosevelt. Where you might see lots of piercings, tattoos and tweed at Ipanema because of the university locale, at Garnett's you're more likely to see more "regular joes" who live in and around the beautiful Fan neighborhood. Garnett's is a basic coffeeshop in the morning, but gets its groove on for lunch and dinner, serving some awesome traditional sandwiches and spreads with the chef's special flair. Among the many good choices, the Scuffletown chicken and Croque Madame sandwiches are popular, and they always have really good soup offerings. Kendra can often be seen here too, doling out piece of pie behind the bar. It's a small place, but it's worth any wait you may have to suffer. You can just walk around the beautiful Fan beforehand, or save the walk for an after-dinner digestive.

“So Happy I Found this Gem!”
Reviewed December 29, 2012

OK - now I have a new favorite restaurant in Richmond. What a lovely, little place - I am glad we arrived for a late lunch, because I am sure this place fills up all the time. I had the best grilled cheese of my life - cheddar cheese, spinach, red onions, and garlic aioli on grilled rye bread - YUM! My husband ordered the roast beef with gorgonzola cheese on grilled Italian bread - he said it was the best roast beef sandwich he has ever had. The side of French potato salad was out of this world! Cannot wait to return - it is going to be our favorite "go to" place from now on.
