“A visit to downtown Richmond”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 28, 2012

My wife and I needed to go down town on Friday for some lite business and we decided to stay overnight at the Linden Row House. A great experience from the start... Showed up at the door, my car was parked, the room was big with 14 ft ceilings. The court yard was nice and peaceful and a good breakfast to boot. Free shuttle around town if you need it. A great deal for the price and I even got a six pack of micro brew in the room (i just wish it was already on ice). Being a beer guy, the Capital ale house is 5 blocks and an easy walk away. I would stay there again the next time i return to Richmond.

Thank you for your compliments on the Linden Row Inn. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay during Virginia Craft Beer Month. This was our first year offering a craft beer package during August, and we hope to reintroduce a similar package in the future. We look forward to hosting you again soon!

The Good: The exterior: the hotel is made up of seven 19th century row houses, said to be one of the best examples of Greek Revival architecture in the US. The service: all the staff we met -- the front desk clerk, the breakfast room attendant and the parking valet -- were extremely pleasant and helpful. The room was large, elegant and clean. The location: Its downtown, within walking distance of Capitol Square and several good restaurants.

The Bad: Actually, not bad, but disappointing: the reception area and the breakfast room -- and all the public spaces we saw except the double parlor -- looked like they belonged in a 60s motel. The breakfast room had some sad, amateur art tacked to the wall. The breakfast, other than hot waffles made by an attendant, was cold and of low-quality.

The Ugly: The back of the hotel is covered by a multi-story porch. We got off the elevator on our floor and were horrified. It was filthy, as in ash-trays overflowing with cigarette butts and trash strewn all over. We almost turned around and left right then.

The good far outweighed the bad and the ugly, so I'll put the filthy porch down to a bad day for housekeeping and give them another chance.

Thank you for taking the time to write a detailed review about your stay at the Linden Row Inn. We appreciate your positive comments, and sincerely apologize for the "bad" and "ugly" aspects of your stay.

We have just recently embarked on an effort to upgrade our reception and public spaces, and we do hope that you will get a chance to see some changes during a future visit. Regarding the artwork, we are sorry that you were unhappy with the exhibition on display during your visit. As part of our efforts to give back to our community, the Linden Row Inn has a partnership with 1708 Gallery, a nonprofit art organization that curates seasonal exhibitions in our public spaces. All of the proceeds from the art go to support the artists and the organization's efforts to present exceptional new art.

Finally, we too are disappointed to hear about the overflowing trash on one of the verandas. We sincerely apologize for that. It is certainly not acceptable by any means, and we have shared your feedback with our housekeeping team to ensure that they don't overlook this issue in the future.

We are happy to hear that you will give us another chance, and hope to see you again very soon!

We stayed two nights at the Linden Row Inn and enjoyed a room in one of the carriage houses. The Inn is a collection of 19th century row houses and outbuildings tied together into a unique restored hotel. It has character missing from the chain hotels. The restoration is aging a bit, so the hotel creaks a bit and could use some new paint here and there, but those things are minor and don't bother me. I enjoy the uniqueness of the place. We also enjoyed a discount package, which kept the price below $100 per night--always welcome. I exploited the complimentary passes to the nearby Y, which was clean and well stocked with machines.

It's old, it's historic, it's beautiful in its way. The price was very good, and the location superb. Valet parking takes your car away for $12 (which includes the overnight parking fee). Reception was not effusively friendly, and as a couple of other reviewers have noted, the Inn feels like it needs a refreshing overhaul.

Still, 12' ceilings, old classic furniture and new bathrooms were appreciated.

Room Tip: The hotel floors are weird: you can take the elevator to your floor, but from the outside walkway to...

I live in Richmond, but gave my husband away for his birthday. This place is perfect. We stayed in one of their suites and had so much space, it was quiet, and a super unique place to stay. The beds were comfortable, the breakfast was yummy, and the management was so sweet. If you're looking for a place to stay for weddings [a place to get ready], this is a cool option as well.

I really wanted to like this place. Richmond is my hometown and I revere and respect historic properties.

However I can only describe this property as one where management is clueless. This property has a lot of potential.

This is the first review I've done for Trip Advisor but I think future guests need to know the following:

--Walls, windows and floors are paper thin. You'll hear every step and every conversation outside of your room.

--front desk--they are friendly but somewhat vapid, and cannot solve any issue that you might have and cannot answer the simplest of questions.

--valet parking--expensive and highly inefficient. Long wait times.

--premium channels on cable are advertised and there is a HBO guide in the room, but there were no premium channels available. No help from the front desk.

--water temperatures were hit or miss. Sink faucets could be hot or cold but unfortunately, not the temperature you were looking for at the time.

--breakfast was OK but the same thing everyday with very prepackaged offerings.

Very disappointing. I'm writing this in my Linden Row Inn room, so if management is in the house, feel free to contact me.

Thank you for taking the time to share your constructive feedback on the Linden Row Inn.

We regret that we failed to meet expectations, and sincerely apologize for the breakdown in service during your stay. As attested by the reviews posted by other guests, your experience is an extreme anomaly and our management team has reached out to you to discuss your stay and make things up to you. Needless to say, we will be incorporating your feedback into our ongoing training program for Front Desk staff.

We also apologize for your experience with the water temperature and the issues you faced with viewing HBO and certain cable television channels. Unfortunately, your TripAdvisor review was not published until after you checked out of the hotel. We encourage anyone that ever experiences an issue with their room to contact us directly during their stay. This will allow us to not only pinpoint the cause of the issue but also provide us the opportunity to offer appropriate real-time resolution to our guest.
