“great location”
Reviewed August 7, 2012 via mobile

Right at the edge between the business district and The renovated Shockoe Slip district and 2 blocks from the capital, this was a great location for a one night stop. It also seems to cater to business travelers. the place is small and elegant with a lot of dark wood panelling. there is a pleasant looking restaurant on the first floor with traditional food but we went for one of the many nearby places for both lunch and dinner. our room had two very comfortable beds piled high with pillows. a large table that would make a good desk that we used for breakfast. 2 comfy chairs, a wardrobe with iron and lockbox. big flat screen tv, wireless. N ice large bath with roomy counters, granite tiling. We opted for the valet parking $20 because we had a packed car and it was secure and the service was good but we could have parked nearby for much less. i saw it on one of the discount travel sites for $119 but called the hotel and was quoted $130. when i called back they said $150 but were pleasant about doing the $130 price.

Lovely European-style hotel. Beautifully appointed room, squeaky clean with a soft, lush bed. Quiet and nice. A great stop on a driving trip, because it's just off 95 downtown in a great area for walking with many restaurants nearby. Not sold on the $20+ valet parking with a 15 minute wait to retrieve the car, but after we turned it down the front desk clerk told us street parking was free and we found a spot right across the street. We didn't eat in the restaurant because on that Sunday night there were only two people there--a little too quiet. But will try next time. Staff of two, front desk and bellman, seemed less than enthusiastic but the morning front desk person was very nice. Definitely would go again. Price is unbelievable for the quality of the facility. $135 King.

We recently stayed here for one night. What a treat it was. The hotel is beautiful and well presented, staff are very friendly and helpful and the rooms are amazing. The bathroom was just as big with a huge roll top bath. We also had a cute separate sitting room with a tv . Staff here were very professional and friendly. The setting is really picturesque. The children's menu is very good and very reasonable and children are fussed over and made to feel very welcome which delighted our son. Although this hotel is on the expensive side it is so worth the money. We had such a lovely stay and it out the smiles back on our faces. Very romantic and family friendly. I'm saving my pennies for a return visit. The best hotel we have stayed in.. Thank you to the staff!!!!

The moment we enter the hotel, the staff from Valet parking, Registration desk, restaurant staff, the singer who perform that night are all very pleasant and courteous. Berkeley Hotel is very clean and very comfy. The moment we enter our room we feel at home right away it is so nice, clean and smells good. I would definitely go back and stay in this hotel and it is highly recommended for everyone. Very good service!

we stopped last week for one night, based upon reviews from this site and we were not disappointed.
loved the lobby area with all of the wood work. room was a nice size, i ws expecting a smaller room from an older building. bed was comfortable. room was spotless. has breakfast in lobby dining room, good service, good coffee, good blueberry pancakes.
overall a very pleasant experience. we walked the canal walk in the morning. we walked up the hill one block to walk the capitol grounds. at night we went to Europa for tapas. went to Tobacco building across from hotel for beers and country rock.

Just returned from another and our last stay - can't help it-when you wake to your room filling up like a bathtub at 3 am and you get treated like you are bothering the hotel desk-that is it. We did not hear from them at all and no one would pick up the phone at the front desk-we just had to gather our things in a panic, hope there wasn't an electrical short anywhere and evacuate. Water was rolling out the door as we left. When we made our way to the front desk he replied something like I have had a really rough day too!-They moved us to another room but there was no hot water in the morning and only a token adjustment on the bill. We were stunned at the blase attitude-the company won't be booking anymore business stays there.

We are very sorry about the flooding that occurred on the evening of July 16th. The City of Richmond was required to make emergency repairs to the neighborhood's main water line overnight with no notice to any of the businesses in Shockoe Slip. This repair resulted in all water being shut off temporarily for our hotel causing a pipe to burst. I apologize that our front desk staff did not handle this situation very well. It was an unusual and trying occurence for all of us but our staff should in no way have demonstrated their frustration when interacting with our guests.
Please accept our sincere apology. I would appreciate the opportunity to talk with you directly about your experience. My contact information follows. 804-225-Thank you, Denny Pierce, General Manger

We booked this hotel, sight-unseen, for a business meeting. The hotel staff nearly literally bent over backwards to accommodate our EVERY request, large and small -- even some things that we probably should have done for ourselves. The staff was friendly, reliable and extremely competent. The hotel is lovely and was very easy to get around in.

The food was really good, as was all the service.

I would highly recommend this hotel for a business meeting, and I'd like to go back for a relaxing weekend off the clock!

Room Tip: Ask for one with a sitting area...OR a balcony.

Thank you for your wonderful review. Our management team works hard to train our staff and meet our corporate meeting planners'expectations. We are the ideal property for small corporate meetings. The Berkeley Hotel enjoys Richmond’s best location in the heart of Shockoe Slip; the historic and entertainment district. We remain Richmond’s only downtown 4 diamond hotel and we recently won “Trip Advisor's Certificate of Excellence”. Thank you for staying with us and we hope to see you back soon.
