“Nice Sheraton”
Reviewed March 13, 2014 via mobile

Stayed one night for a soccer tournament. The staff was nice and accommodating. As an SPG member they upgraded us automatically to the club level. The club room was adequately supplied with everything you need for breakfast. Staff member in the club room was very nice. Definitely would stay again.

The hotel is dated and it shows. Room number tags were falling off, hardwood by elevators had huge gaps, moldy ceiling in bathroom, wallpaper is peeling, dirty carpet, pool had a 'film' on it, fan unit did not work very well. Worst part was you could clearly hear through the adjoining room door. Was like being in the room with them. All In all a disappointing hotel.

This hotel was a very nice place to stay, bed was comfortable, room was clean, it is however dated and does not include some of the amenities that should be included for the price that you pay for the room. I traveled for business, the breakfast was overpriced, so I opted to not purchase that, for the price of the room, a small breakfast should be included in the price. Carpet in my room was very dated, needs an upgrade, it appears that the lobby has had an upgrade, but the rooms have not. Overall, I would stay here again, but would not spend any money on the food that they sell as the prices are too high.

Our team stayed at the hotel for the Monument City Classic Volleyball Tournament. This is a stay to play tournament. The location is a convenient 15 min. walk to the convention center and is close to a mall with places to eat within a relatively short 15-20 min walk.
The hotel seems geared to Business travellers, but not prepared for teams. The hotel was under construction and will be much improved when finished. The new rooms appear to be nice.

There were a few unexpected challenges for the team that are often not so difficult at other hotel chains. The restaurant did not open until 6:30 am which is too late for a team that has to play the morning wave and have time to walk to the convention for early morning play. In addition, the breakfast was very expensive and not included in the room rate. To order quickly off the buffet and stuff down something on the run cost $15. A team needs an early healthy, quick less expensive breakfast option:. ONe that could be taken on the go is even more helpful.

The room did have not have a coffee pot. Coffee was Starbucks which was great, but at a cost. A refrigerator was an extra $15--not sure if this was per day. So, in addition to not being able to get a meal at the restaurant early enough, there was no easy way to prepare something quick and healthy in the room. Nor was there a way to store healthy fruit or veggie snacks for between times.

There was parking fee of $18 which we weren't aware of at the start. Wifi was also a fee.
The internet rate was less than the rate we paid stay to play.
The hotel was under construction in the lobby and hallway area but still charged full price despite the inconvenience. The fitness center was also closed and unable to used. A hotel should offer a significant discount if it not offering full service.

So, in terms of staying with a team, the hotel was very costly compared to other chains that offer a free hot breakfast, free coffee, and refrigerator in the room that were just a close to the convention center.

Perhaps in the future, if the hotel is going to a stay to play option, the hotel could consider some different options for teams. Some chains offer brown bag go breakfasts including fruit, hard boiled egg, juice...less expensive healthy and kid friendly lunches and dinners....
I venture to say most teams need and expect a refrigerator in the room to accommodate game schedules and hungry kids!!

I will say the staff at the restaurant went out of their way to try to open earlier to accommodate us. That was very appreciated. And, the buffet looked well-prepared---we just didn't have time to enjoy that kind of meal.

I originally booked a room with two queen beds. This was done prior to the infamous PAX snow storm. In the midst of the one of the worst snow storms, my mother was flying in from Texas and she and I were planning to stay at the hotel for one night. On our check in date, I was very afraid that my mother's flight would be delayed. I contacted reservations and they allowed me to cancel without a penalty/charge. Well, that same night, my mother's flight made it in. So, I contact them again. What a great experience, in addition, to reserving the same type room (two queen beds), we ended up getting free breakfast coupons. Wow! The staff at the Sheraton Richmond Park South, was extremely accommodating! Great hotel!

Room Tip: Be sure to inquire about all specials and discounts.

Do you like a spacious room in a hotel? We were delighted with the space in our King room. With a sofa, desk, and King bed, we felt like royalty! The bathroom is equally spacious with two sinks and complimentary, spa-like toiletries. The Starbucks coffee in-room is also a sweet treat. We did not have time to enjoy the lake and the walking path , but we will take the time to enjoy it when we travel to Richmond again.

Room Tip: Reserve a room on the top floor for the view of the lake.

Stayed here the other night. I was really impressed with the service from the employees from the front desk to the restaurant crew. Hotel was clean and got a good night sleep. Rooms could use a little more tlc, but to me it's all about the service.
