If you like historic properties, this is the hotel for you. It is absolutely beautiful. The staff, everyone from the valet, to bellmen, to concierge, to desk staff and transportation were friendly and helpful. I have travelled quite a bit and am always aware I am waking up in a hotel room, but not here. It felt like waking up at home. Our bed & breakfast package provided complimentary parking as well as transportation to a local restaurant. They upgraded us to a balcony room where we enjoyed our breakfast and coffee on the veranda. The freshly squeezed orange juice was the best I have ever tasted. The rates can be a bit pricy but when you consider the convenience and service provided we considered it well worth the splurge.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony room. The fresh air and the views are worth it.

Thank you for your review! The Bed & Breakfast package is one of our most popular offerings for all the reasons that you mentioned. The balcony rooms are some of our favorites as well. We have just a few of those so they are always in high demand but we are so pleased that you were able to enjoy one as an upgrade.

Attended a 3 day business meeting here. Pleasant staff and nice accommodations. Best bathrobe ever, and you can buy in gift shop to take home. Very old, historic hotel with lots of pillars, marble and big staircases. We'll preserved, but environs seem cold and lacking in holiness or warmth.

Meeting food was very basic and bland. Coffee was absolutely awful. Their restaurant Lemaire is billed as high end but prices were readonable at that. Food in Lemaire was very good, but I've enjoyed better.

Hotel has lots of fake alligators in lobby, etc. (used to have real ones there a long time ago.). The alligator thing is a little overdone.

Thank you for your review. We are glad that you enjoyed our staff, your accommodations, the bathrobes and Lemaire but do apologize that you found the food and the coffee during your meetings less than satisfactory. We hope that we would again have the opportunity to be your host for a leisure trip so that we might improve upon your experience. Our goal for each of our guests is to exceed expectations.

The Jefferson is an exquisite historic renovation worth a spcial trip. The lobby is spectacular and our suite was beautifully done in period reproductions. The staff was extraordinarily friendly and helpful. Although the hotel is located a little beyond easy walking distance from the center of Richmond the hotel's limos are available to run guest to dining and shopping --- we were delivered and promptly picked-up for dinner at The Tobacco Company (no charge --- just tip to driver). We received the same service to The Virginia Museum of Art. The Jefferson is a hidden gem that should not be missed.

MY family make it a habit now to buy our cars from a specific dealer in Savannah, GA. In June 2013, we all enjoyed ten days a wonderful beach vacation at a great resort in Hilton head,
This 1st couple days of March, as my son and I picked up the most powerful wagon in the world, we randomly picked the Jefferson Hotel in Richemond, VA from Google in the car (bad idea (we should have gone to TripAdvisor) which is about mid-point to home. The hotel was very average. We were passed to 6 different people as we booked our room from the road.
The entire staff was on the cold side and generally very impersonal. The room AC sounded like the time I sat on the window seat of a jumbo to Dubai. The shower head was a step up from the one in my first college apartment in 1985 in State College, PA.
On the positive side, the decor was very nice. Unfortunately, I will not add it our next stop as for $300/night it is absolutely not worth it. I am afraid that at half that, it still would not be worth it either.

Husband and I stayed at The Jefferson with our in-laws. We booked the Winter Bed and Breakfast package.

Highlights:
1. Parking and breakfast were included in our rate.
2. Indoor pool was really great. Probably the best indoor hotel pool we've ever used.
3. Huge, soft towels.
4. Soft pillows made for comfortable sleeping.
5. Friendly, helpful service, including the complimentary car service.

We didn't love our breakfast at TJ's, but we think it was more what we ordered not hitting the spot than the quality of the food; we also had a wonderful server. My husband thought the interior of the room was a bit old-fashioned for his taste, but that is what you're going to The Jefferson to experience.

Overall, I strongly recommend it!

Thank you for your review and recommendation to others. We are constantly updating our guest rooms and hope that you and your husband will consider visiting again in the future. The rooms will always maintain their historic character and traditional furnishings but will better satisfy your husband in his tastes for something more contemporary.

Staying at The Jefferson was as memorable an experience of touring Richmond and the environs as any historic or cultural outing we made. The grand old hotel is view back in time, architecturally impressive, but maintaining up to date facilities and a very good restaurant. Excellent staff, indoor pool with roof garden and nice workout facility.

A friend and I went to the Jefferson about a week before Christmas to hear a band called 'The Offering' play Christmas music. The band was super and the decorations were absolutely beautiful. I've lived in Richmond 8 years wanting to go there every Christmas just to see the elegant decorations and I finally made it and hope to go again next year. Next time I'm having lunch there too.

Room Tip: Did not stay overnight. Live locally.

We are delighted that you were able to visit during the holidays and do hope that you'll visit again this year. Our schedule for the Music at Midday concerts, in which The Offerings appear each year, will be issued in early fall and we recommend lunch reservations for TJ's well in advance as they are popular and fill quickly. We hope this information helps with your planning and that you will also consider attending our annual Tree Lighting on Monday, December 1st!
