Owner description: The White House and Museum of the Confederacy are located in downtown Richmond's historic Court End neighborhood, just a few blocks from Capitol Square. Guided tours of Jefferson Davis' executive mansion leave from the Museum lobby throughout the day and typically last around 45 minutes. Three floors of exhibits in the Museum chronicle the war years through the personal belongings of Confederate leaders like Robert E. Lee as well as those of common soldiers and citizens on the homefront.

“The tour of the "White House of the Confederacy" is well worth it”

We just happened to walk up as the guide was walking a couple from the museum to the house. He kindly waited while we got our tickets. So glad we took this tour. It was incredibly interesting. The guide was fantastic (I only wish I could remember his name) he was so knowledgeable and a caring individual as well. The house is beautiful, and I am so glad that it has been preserved and is open for people to tour. The museum was very nice as well, although we did not spend a lot of time there and the three year old that was with us was ready for her nap time. Truly, our interest was the house anyway, so we just did a quick walk through of the museum, but it looked to be very comprehensive. This is another Richmond attraction that is well worth the time and money for a visit.

“Well-told History”

Recently visited for the first time - both the museum and the tour were outstanding. Our tour guide for the White House, I believe his name was Charles, was AWESOME. He was so knowledgeable and so kind. You could tell he was excited to share his knowledge and had a way of telling the stories that really made you understand what happened. We really liked him and have already recommended the tour to people because of him. Definitely want to do this again - highly recommended.

“Well Done!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 12, 2013

I went to both museums. The one in Richmond and the one in Appomattox. Both are worth a visit. The exhibits are great. While there, I went to Hollywood Cemetery and spent 6 hours there. That was so cool! Then on to Appomattox where Lee surrendered to Grant. I'd been there some 40 years ago as a kid but wasn't really interested. But this time I saw eveything in a new light since I recently got interested in the Civil War. True, some of the things there are replicas, but hey, I still enjoyed it. I also stopped at every roadside marker between Lynchburg, Lexington and Richmond. Overall, I had a great time!

“A great learning experience”

It would be a mistake to not visit both museums---the Museum of the Confederacy and the White House in Richmond ,Virginia are both fantastic. Both presentations are laid out well and together require about three hours to fully appreciate all that they have to offer. The guided tour of the 'White House' was done with such passion and expertise that one wonders if the tour guide
'lived in the house during the Civil War !' Definitely MUST SEE and APPRECIATE MUSEUMS .

“Fascinating and emmotive”

2nd visit for me first for 2 friends with me. The Museum is very well set up with plenty of galleries so that you move around quite easily not that it was busy when we were there.
The narratives alongside all the exhibits are very comprehensive and give you a full idea of the events.
The Museum is located next to a large hospital and if you are driving you park in the hospital multi-storey car park and as long as you get your ticket validated by the museum there is no charge for parking.
Well worth a visit - maybe only one downside - there is no coffee shop nearby or at the museum - we arrived about 15 minutes before opening time and had to stand in a bitter wind waiting for the doors to open - no shelter either.

First of all, thank you so much for coming all the way back to visit us a second time, and for taking the time to write this review!

We're sorry that you had a cold wait before the museum opened. In case you make it back for a third visit, there is a coffee shop and other restaurants located in the hospital next door, and you would certainly be welcome to wait inside the hospital where it is warm. There are several lounge/sitting-areas, including one that overlooks the Museum's entrance, giving you the perfect vantage point to see when we open for visitors.

Thanks again,
MOC
