Owner description: The White House and Museum of the Confederacy are located in downtown Richmond's historic Court End neighborhood, just a few blocks from Capitol Square. Guided tours of Jefferson Davis' executive mansion leave from the Museum lobby throughout the day and typically last around 45 minutes. Three floors of exhibits in the Museum chronicle the war years through the personal belongings of Confederate leaders like Robert E. Lee as well as those of common soldiers and citizens on the homefront.

Having visited 9 Civil War sites in the previous 2 weeks we ended our tour here. The museum was very well laid out with many displays we had not seen at others we had visited. The women in war one was especially poignant. THe tour of the Confederate white house next door was very entertaining with many anecdotal asides from our knowledgeable guide. The furniture is mostly original and that which is not is a period piece not reproductions. With a little imagination you can envision what it was like 150 years ago to be in that spot. The staff in both the museum and on the white house tour were helpful and knowledgeable. Do this tour!

Ok... I know what you are thinking,,,, Gift shop??? We had only a few minutes to run into the Museum and take a peek; however, the gift shop was small but full of items I like such as flags , etc. I appreciated being able to get a Virginia flag and 1st national flag for my ancestor that for in the Virginia Cavalry. I was also able to sneak in for a last tour of the day of the White House and enjoyed the home. The parking is poor but be patient, If you love history this could be the right stop!!

A very well done museum that, based on its collection, cannot but glorify a cause, that, no matter how current supporters spin it, was basically evil. Staff are well informed. Be sure to add the tour of the next door Confederate White House.

The White House tour is extremely interesting. We would give it a 5. Our tour guides were great. The museum itself left much to be desired. It is more a museum of the life of a confederate soldier, rather than the history of the confederacy. The exhibits were dated, bathrooms old and smelly. The museum gets a 2. So much more could be done with the subject matter.
