We have been here before, but this time we had scheduled a personal viewing of some stored museum pieces. Wow! What a treat we had! We had a chance to see things we every expected. The staff was wonderful and helpful! Afterwards we took the time to view the museum side. If you ever want to know more about Virginia, this is your stop! Periods range from the Native Americans to Present Day! A must see!

Lots and lots to look at - many hands on displays.....and it's free! The History of Virginia exhibit takes you on a winding tour of the state's history from Clovis points to present day - from canoes to Klein motor cars. We visited several hours on each of two days and did not even get to see some of the side room exhibits. Will return on our next trip to Richmond.

Some of it was a little ho-hum, but we enjoyed the large collection of containers from Virginia products of the past. The museum itself is next to the Art museum, with a beautiful building and nice grounds. Parking lot is free.

By all means, don't miss visiting the historical society in Virginia. They've done a wonderful job of providing a time progression walk through history in Virginia. It's amazing in its frank and honest reflection of how things were and how people were treated. A must see for all people, especially Americans.

The VHS has some very nice galleries, and the murals they are restoring are quite impressive. Impressive firearms collection on display.
