“Very enjoyable”

This museum is small but packed with interesting information. I learned quite a lot about Poe. The staff there is great and very well versed about Poe and answered all our questions. Quite enjoyable.

“If you are a Poe fan........”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 13, 2013

This is a very Poeish atmosphere! Even though this is not his actual home, some of his furniture, clothes, and personal items are here. The grounds are very creepy and romantic....in a literary sense. If Poe didn't actually live here, he would have wanted to! There are some original manuscripts, which is cool. They have a small giftshop. The lady at the desk was super nice.

“Inexpensive, yet still cool.”

They have some cool artifacts, but unless you live-eat-breathe Poe, you will not find it to be stellar. They could turn it into a really special place, if they wanted to -- integrate more technology, have MUSIC in the buildings, etc. Don't get me wrong, I didn't hate the visit, but I didn't love it, either. For the price, I was entertained for an hour.

“It was just "eh"”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 9, 2013

Although there were some interesting artifacts, this museum does not offer a great deal of excitement. This is not where Poe lived. There is little in the way of interactive exhibits and everything feels a but dusty (in a non-literal way). Children will not enjoy this. This is an inexpensive museum that does not take a lot of time to wander through, so it may be a nice addition to the day if you're in the area. It is not a destination experience, though.

“Pass on this one...”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 15, 2013

This museum is in a small (very old) house and surrounding out-buildings. However, Poe never lived in any of them -- all the places where he lived in Richmond are long gone. Plus, some of the stuff is a bit of a stretch: ie., 'here's the desk where Poe MAY have sat...' Not worth it.
