Three nights in September as we toured Southern Sardegna.
Charming hotel overall.
Very tastefully decorated rooms.
Nice toiletries without being over the top, they are quality.
Bedding nice (split beds zipped together rather than one big king/queen mattress)- not great but OK.
Located at the end of an unpaved road- has a way of disconnecting you which has it's charm.
TV almost as small as my iPhone screen (almost)- but we didnt come here to watch TV.
What we loved:
The setting and layout of this hotel- several villas comfortably spread throughout the 'estate'- lots of pine trees that fill the warm air with this incredibly soothing mood and fragrance.
Beautifully maintained infrastructure.
Quiet- not many children and a real effort by all guests to be quiet around the pools or during breakfast or even in our room- people come here to rest & relax-sooo nice.
Architecture of the main building- absolutely charming- just gorgeous.
Two very pretty and different pool areas- special mention to the 'seafront' pool.
What we didn't like:
No wifi- and at best 11Euros a day for wifi in the lobby only- in 2013 is unacceptable.
Breakfast was simply poor (though the setting was charming)- I strongly suggest making people pay for breakfast and doing a better job, because this breakfast is embarrassing- orange juice, pastries get a special mention for being atrocious. I am happy I didnt' try to have any other meals there.
The beach- loved the seafront pool but there is no beach as it was buried under 1M of decomposing algae- I will let you imagine the odors that wafted around us (I started calling the place "Koh Poo Poo" as a joke on Koh Phi Phi in Thailand.)
Interaction with the staff was inconsistent- one member very nicely gives us directions to a restaurant for dinner -problem is that he had no map or (accurate) directions- big surprise, we got totally lost in the night (but he was right, the restaurant was great).
The next experience during checkout- no one asking how was the stay- and nowhere to store our luggage- "you can leave it by the door" as she rushes to deduct from my card. Clearly a manager and clearly not customer minded.
However, it is Hotel Costa dei Fiori's 'pool guy'- who wins the prize. This guy keeps the pools spotless (to his credit), but imagine this guy, leaning on the railing by the pool, looking out over the sea for periods of up to an hour, surfing on his smartphone. Suddenly, you hear him calling out...and wait for it...whistling to guests who entered the pool without showering first!! Publicly shaming the guests!!
I understand the need for people to be hygienic, but if the hotel is truly committed, they will keep the pool boy a little more busy doing other things and put a proper sign near the showers/stairs instead of a hard to read cartoon at the entrance of the pool area...communicate better- no have some guard dog at the pool harassing guests.
What saved the customer experience for us at this hotel was a charming and helpful trainee...charming young lady really trying to help. I suggest the management watch and learn from her a little bit more.
Gives me hope for this hotel.
Would probably return and I recommend this hotel with certain caveats.
