“Room for improvement”
Reviewed October 6, 2013

Three nights in September as we toured Southern Sardegna.

Charming hotel overall.
Very tastefully decorated rooms.
Nice toiletries without being over the top, they are quality.
Bedding nice (split beds zipped together rather than one big king/queen mattress)- not great but OK.
Located at the end of an unpaved road- has a way of disconnecting you which has it's charm.
TV almost as small as my iPhone screen (almost)- but we didnt come here to watch TV.

What we loved:
The setting and layout of this hotel- several villas comfortably spread throughout the 'estate'- lots of pine trees that fill the warm air with this incredibly soothing mood and fragrance.
Beautifully maintained infrastructure.
Quiet- not many children and a real effort by all guests to be quiet around the pools or during breakfast or even in our room- people come here to rest & relax-sooo nice.
Architecture of the main building- absolutely charming- just gorgeous.
Two very pretty and different pool areas- special mention to the 'seafront' pool.

What we didn't like:

No wifi- and at best 11Euros a day for wifi in the lobby only- in 2013 is unacceptable.

Breakfast was simply poor (though the setting was charming)- I strongly suggest making people pay for breakfast and doing a better job, because this breakfast is embarrassing- orange juice, pastries get a special mention for being atrocious. I am happy I didnt' try to have any other meals there.

The beach- loved the seafront pool but there is no beach as it was buried under 1M of decomposing algae- I will let you imagine the odors that wafted around us (I started calling the place "Koh Poo Poo" as a joke on Koh Phi Phi in Thailand.)

Interaction with the staff was inconsistent- one member very nicely gives us directions to a restaurant for dinner -problem is that he had no map or (accurate) directions- big surprise, we got totally lost in the night (but he was right, the restaurant was great).

The next experience during checkout- no one asking how was the stay- and nowhere to store our luggage- "you can leave it by the door" as she rushes to deduct from my card. Clearly a manager and clearly not customer minded.

However, it is Hotel Costa dei Fiori's 'pool guy'- who wins the prize. This guy keeps the pools spotless (to his credit), but imagine this guy, leaning on the railing by the pool, looking out over the sea for periods of up to an hour, surfing on his smartphone. Suddenly, you hear him calling out...and wait for it...whistling to guests who entered the pool without showering first!! Publicly shaming the guests!!

I understand the need for people to be hygienic, but if the hotel is truly committed, they will keep the pool boy a little more busy doing other things and put a proper sign near the showers/stairs instead of a hard to read cartoon at the entrance of the pool area...communicate better- no have some guard dog at the pool harassing guests.

What saved the customer experience for us at this hotel was a charming and helpful trainee...charming young lady really trying to help. I suggest the management watch and learn from her a little bit more.

Gives me hope for this hotel.

Would probably return and I recommend this hotel with certain caveats.

Dear Guest, thank you for visiting Sardinia and for the positive comments and suggestions, some of them we are already trying to follow; for example we are planning to improve our breakfast in order to show better the autenticity of our "casa".
We hope, if you'll decide to come back, your comments will be all positive.
Arrivederci.

A group of 10 of us stayed at the Costa Dei Fiori in late September. The hotel arranged our transfers from the airport, at a very competitive price compared to quotes from holiday autos and resort hoppa. They also delivered on a request to have us all in rooms close to one another. In fact they delivered on every request we made, and could not have been more helpful or friendly.
The hotel does not have a beach, but compensates with a salt water infinity pool built next to the sea and a small man-made beach, but also provides a shuttle bus to Chia beach (soft white sand and crystal clear turquoise sea) - operated by the two brothers who picked us up from the airport and even booked a restaurant for us during our stay. We stayed in the basic rooms, that were more than adequate, with firm beds, a good shower and basic hairdryers. The in room safes can be a bit temperamental, but reception can sort them. We had half board, breakfast was good, all the usual continental items plus eggs, bacon etc. although the toaster took 3 passes to slightly brown the bread! Dinner was interesting - starters were fixed, (although they would produce an alternative for the non meat eaters if asked) then there was a choice of meat or fish for the main course, then a set dessert. There were two starter courses, that consisted of two different items in each course, the strange thing was the mixture of fish and meat on the same plate. However it was all tasty and in fact by the time the main course came, most people were full. If you are a fussy eater then the fixed menu idea may not be for you. We love Sardinia, the people, the climate and the scenery are amazing. We would not hesitate to recommend this lovely relaxed hotel, with very helpful staff.

Dear Guest, thank you for the very kind comments and for saying "helpful staff".
About the daily menu, in order to promote express kitchen with fresh products, we offer both choises of starter, a first course, an alternative between two main courses, and the dessert.
As you said, if somebody doesn't like the daily proposals, knowing in advance, we can agree some changes with the pleasure of our chef.
Thank you again and
Arrivederci.

My wife and I and 3 young adults (18-20) had a very relaxing stay at the Hotel in September 2013. The staff were all extremely helpful and the receptionists spoke good English (highlighting our poor/non existent Italian) which enabled us to get advice and clear instructions on places of interest and restaurants in the area. The Hotel is certainly a good base from which to explore the South West of the island and there are many beautiful sandy beaches within striking distance (car hire recommended). The rooms were comfortable and clean and the gardens and pools were well maintained. We were bed and breakfast only, so ate out every night in Pula, about 10 mins drive away. There is a great range of eateries to suit all tastes and budgets. We particularly liked the Saradinian cuisine at Tia Leunora (fish) and Su Furriadroxu (meat). The beach below the Hotel was disappointing, clogged with seaweed, and there were no other leisure facilities to speak of. Our young adults did play tennis one day but of the 3 courts only 1 was useable and even then the surface and net were in poor condition. We were surprised to be charged for pool towel rental, given the Hotel's 4* rating. The bar area was limited, more designed for Summer when people would drink outside on the terraces. The Hotel would benefit from an indoor lounge area served by a bar for comfortable relaxation of a cooler evening. Directions to the Hotel from the airport could be clearer, perhaps with better signage at the junction with the main road. I am sure that we were not the first guests to spend quite a bit of time locating the Hotel. The surface of the access road to the Hotel also leaves something to be desired but, fortunately, Europcar were not concerned by the level of dust which covered our car by the end of the week! Overall, we had a very enjoyable and relaxing holiday at Hotel Costa dei Fiori and a few improvements could make this a 5* experience.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms with shared terrace (general thoroughfare) above restaurant area.

I have recently returned from a stay at the Hotel Costa del Fiori and this is a review of my visit. The hotel is situated in a beautiful large woodland setting which is well maintained and represents a pleasant and picturesque setting for the hotel. The reception is located in the main building as is the dining area and the bar. There are separate accommodation blocks located in the grounds, with 8 rooms to each block, emanating in a semi-circle from the reception block in two 90 degree arcs. The reception is clean, spacious and modern with plenty of seating.

I stayed in an Ibiscous room, which is classed as a superior room. The room is adequate with a combined bath and shower. The housekeeping staff kept the room clean and tidy during our stay.

I found the hotel staff helpful and obliging.

Pros
1) The location and the layout of the hotel is very good, based as it is in a beautiful woodland setting.
2) The meals were of good quality and well cooked, particularly the fillet steak from the Al a Carte menu. Compliments to the chef for the fillet steak.
3) The staff were friendly and helpful.
4) The swimming pools are clean and well maintained, particularly the swimming pool in front of the reception area.

Cons
1) Wi-Fi is only available in the reception area at present.
2) There are no tea or coffee making facilities available within the room.
3) The breakfast could with little effort be better.
4) The provision of UK channels available on the TV system would be appreciated.

I spoke with the owner who is passionate about his hotel and he was very keen to listen to comments and suggestions from guests that could improve the hotel and the experience of his guests.

The owner promised me that he would look at the suggestions made, including some other small suggested improvements which are to trivial to mention, with a view to implementing them in the near future. The owner cares about his hotel and in developing the hotel to its full potential, which would in turn make the Hotel Costa dei Fiori a very desirable destination.

I hope to return to the Hotel Costa dei Fiori in the near future to see the implementation of the improvements now planned by the owner. Unlike major hotel chains, family run hotel's such as the Hotel Costa dei Fiori can implement suggested improvements quickly and it is my opinion that this will be the case with the Hotel Costa dei Fiori.

Room Tip: If possible upgrade to a suite.

My wife and I stayed at the Costa Dei Fiori in September 2013. We stayed in one of the suites which was very spacious with a good sized private balcony overlooking the main pool. The smaller pool overlooking the sea was lovely and the climate at this time of year perfect for us (25 ish degrees). We had to leave a couple of days early for reasons unrelated to the hotel and the manager charged us no early check out penalties.

Fantastic place to relax with lovely clean pools. Half Board meant that we were so full after dinner we needed to sleep it off! Beautiful beaches only a short drive away. Not much nightlife close by especially out of season but perfect for a quiet relaxing holiday. Thank you to all the lovely staff there for a great holiday.

We had stay in the hotel and spent 6 nights, was our honeymoon. The hotel is very peaceful, very kind and helpfull staff, with a nice pool. Only problem i think that the rooms should be soundproofed properly brcause u can hear all the noises from neighbour rooms. Thank you Costa dei Fiori for the nice stay and thank you Danielle for your help and kindness in the restaurant, good luck to you!
