Excellent family holiday for both children and adults. Children are safe to wander unaccompanied round the village which makes it more relaxing for adults. Staff are very friendly and helpful.Fantastic choice of food at all restaurants in a beautiful environment.Everything for a carefree holiday whatever the age group of your party.

We had a great week at Forte Village staying at the Royal Pineta (August 2017). On arrival we had a short wait in main reception where we were offered a drink. Alessandro was our main point of contact for the hotel and he was outstanding. The hotel staff were unobtrusive but there if you needed them.

Unfortunately our luggage was lost between main reception and Pineta reception which resulted in a wait in the room when the children were needing lunch. We felt obliged to let them eat the rather expensive minibar snacks while we waited for our luggage to turn up so we could change into something better suited to the heat before we ventured out. My youngest son ended up with a bad headache by the time we found some lunch so we asked to take our already-ordered lunch back to the room which the Oasis Pool restaurant staff very kindly organised. Thank you to the staff for that! The Pineta reception staff kindly brought me ice on request for my son and provided details about the on-site doctor (which we didn’t require in the end but was good to know was on site.)

We were in interconnecting Superior Terrace Rooms. Our room was spacious with plenty of room despite having a rollaway bed as extra. Minibar fridge, safe, hairdryer all provided. Nice shower room. Excellent a/c. Balcony. Housekeeping was excellent, sheets changed daily, towels changed twice a day, floors and everything else spotless. Floors were cleaned in the morning, other housekeeping was late afternoon. The minibar was checked during siesta time which wasn’t ideal but the staff member was very quiet when he saw the children were resting. There were Do Not Disturb signs but the suction pads didn’t work so the signs fell off the door.

We had breakfast in the BellaVista restaurant in the mornings (there was an option to have breakfast outside at Pineta but the view at BellaVista was too much of a draw). This is a self-service affair with a good range of cooked breakfast items, cereals, desserts, pastries, fruit, yoghurts, juices etc. The coffee here is fabulous and the view is outstanding. My son is coeliac and cannot eat gluten - there was a gluten-free section but this was limited and did not include cereals. We brought our own and he enjoyed the fruit and yoghurt, but the option of gluten-free breakfast cereal and gluten-free pastries and bread would have made this a much better experience for him. Hard telling your kid there is no waffle/croissant option for them to enjoy.

We had lunch in the pizza restaurant (which is in the same location as the BellaVista breakfast restaurant). The food here was good - a choice of pizzas, hamburgers, a salad bar, breads etc, and made even better by the fact that they could provide a gluten-free pizza for my son cooked in a separate oven to avoid cross-contamination. My son said this was the best gluten-free pizza he had tasted yet. The staff here were really good, Giulliano in particular, and as the view is fantastic we loved this restaurant. Approx price Euro18 for a pizza or salad. The bread and other unsupervised food needs fly nets.

We had dinner in the Pineta Restaurant. This is a fantastic restaurant with a wonderful range of food. There is a theme each night (fish or beef for example) which kept the choices interesting and there was a good range of salads, a good range of pasta dishes (a very good lasagne!), utterly delicious desserts, a gelato bar. A bottle of white wine is included with the meal at each table and bottled water is also free. There are a few bothersome wasps. One night we were provided with an anti-wasp burning pot which helped. Perhaps something to put around a few of the tables? Good live music and a lovely ambience. Without question though, the most wonderful thing about the restaurant is the Manager, Vincenzo, who was able to provide detailed information about gluten-free options for my son and arranged his favourite dish of gluten-free spaghetti bolognese in a matter of minutes and without making us feel like it was any kind of imposition. He even went to the trouble of labelling the gluten-free dishes - no mean feat given the amount of choice. His kindness and service with a smile was hugely appreciated by all of us and he made my son feel valued rather than an extra chore to have to deal with. Thank you!

The Sports Bar: this could be another jewel in Forte's crown. Located next to the football and basketball court and a few steps from the beach there are comfortable sofas and umbrellas, fans blowing cool mist after noon, good music playing and a well-stocked bar. Unfortunately, service is often slow and there doesn’t seem to be any queuing system so you can wait ages to be served. The beach bar waiting staff get their drinks from here too and appear to be served first which slows things down. There could be more seats and umbrellas/shade here. There are also toilets here but we didn’t realise for a couple of days – these could be signed. There is a table tennis table and bats/ball next to the football pitches and this is free to use at any time. A pleasant bonus. Around the corner is a gelato stand – lovely gelato for Euro 1.50.

The Sports Academies are amazing: our family did the Chelsea Football Academy, the go-karting academy, the basketball academy, and one of the cookery academy classes. All of them said the academies were outstanding. The football coaches (Dan, Ben, Rob and Harry I think?) were fabulous: friendly on and off the pitch, skilled and encouraging. My son did Academy training from 10-11ish Mon-Fri, a kids football match daily from 4-5.30 and then joined the friendly kids match from 9-10pm daily. (There is an adults friendly at 6pm daily too.) He knocked a ball about with friends for at least half an hour before and after each session. He loved every moment and was not happy when we insisted he joined us on the beach while he waited for the afternoon football! Water was provided at the morning and afternoon sessions. My son lived in his Forte Chelsea kit – we could have done with two kits as there was some frantic drying of laundry between sessions when I could peel the kit off him. He also made some great friends. The only negative point of the whole football experience was when I arrived at 10pm to pick him up to find all the children had been sent back to their rooms because there had been some fighting between other players. The younger players should have been made to sit around the field until their parents arrived, not sent off unsupervised at that age. Or it should be made clear that parents are expected to remain at the bar while their child plays.

Go-karting was excellent. My son is speed-mad and he was in heaven here. Eddie was ‘legend’ – his words – and you can’t get higher praise from a teenager. Go karting, bowling (and I think the teens disco) is in LeisureLand on the north side of the resort and this can be reached safely by a tunnel which goes under the main road outside the resort. Very safe for older kids to get themselves there and back.

Basketball was also excellent. My son was the only one signed up for it and this meant no matches, obvs, which was a shame. However he received one to one training and rated the whole experience as amazing. Marco, the coach, was also rated ‘legend’ by my son.

They all received a kit or hat and backpack, either as part of the cost of the course or paid extra.

My son and husband did a cookery course with a Michelin-starred chef. They are huge foodies and loved this. They received an apron and oven-glove to take home which they liked.

We did catamaran-ing and paddle-boarding. These were good but all the water sports were much too expensive compared with similar resorts.

The beach is lovely, good sand, clear warm water, shallow out a little way, a little bit of seaweed in the water which you only noticed when the water was a little more choppy. Most days were calm and a couple of days were more ‘sporting’ which my kids enjoyed anyway. There are many sunbeds on the narrow beach. I don’t know if the beach empties a bit further away from the main entrance but it is very busy otherwise. The sunbeds can be booked for the week for a fee – worth doing on arrival as we ended up with beds in two different locations. There was no sign of any lifeguard when the sea was calm and when it was more choppy I saw a couple of them on the beach but they did not appear to be watching the water. There are some sellers on the beach, useful if you want to buy an inflatable, but I didn’t find them bothersome as some other reviews have mentioned and we were never approached directly. There is also a good beach bar service.

The two pools (one freshwater, one saltwater with waterslides open at certain times of the day and appeared to be less busy overall) were good. We always got a sunbed even when it was busy – thank you to the pool staff for being creative with finding beds and shade, it was much appreciated. The Oasis pool in the centre of the resort was the best but it was still cold (the only heated pool in the resort is a private pool for Castello guests) even at the height of summer. Heated pools should be standard at this type of resort. In the main pool there is a shallow beach type area suitable for smaller children and a bar. There is also a small children’s pool and a small deep pool.

We hired bikes for the children (Euro15 for small bikes, Euro25 for bigger bikes) which they loved. Lots of safe, well-lit paths for them made this a great addition to the holiday. My son had a near-miss with a golf-buggy on a narrow corner where each couldn’t see the other coming, but otherwise it was all positive.

The security on the site was really important to us and this was excellent. There is a gated barrier at the entrance and the entrance to the beach had staff on it in the evening once the beach was closed. My children (age 8+) were able to wander/cycle around the resort by themselves and we felt very safe letting them do so.

The biggest downside of the holiday is the cost of water in the resort which rocketed the cost of our extras bill. Other resorts offer water at the bar at a much lower price and some have a small market where you can buy water at low cost if needed. We would have made use of that.

The free wifi is pretty poor overall but you can pay fora premium service.

Management suggestions:
More serving staff at the Sports Bar at busy times of the day.
Some staff could do with training to improve their customer interactions.
Provide one free bottle of water per person per room (we only had 2 bottles per 3 people)
The luggage could be labelled with your room number while you wait for your buggy to avoid losing it.
Provide better Do Not Disturb door signs.
Provide anti-wasp burning pots at the open-air dinner restaurants.
Put food under fly nets.

Overall I feel that the management really pays attention to the reviews written here as many of the things I was worried about from others’ reviews didn't materialize as they appear to have been taken care of. This is a great sign of a management team looking to improve their resort based on customers’ expectations.

Traveler tips:
If you’re travelling from the cold UK, have a summer outfit in your handluggage.
Buy water at the airport before your transfer to the resort.
Get to Pineta restaurant early for dinner to get the best choices of food (especially desserts).
Most of the staff speak good English, however learn a little Italian and enjoy using it.
See the sunrise on the beach – you won’t regret it.

Will we return? It is expensive once the end of week bill is added on to the cost of the holiday. However the range of activities for a busy, sporty family like ours is very good. Add in a great beach, a beautiful resort, super food, great service and Italian/Sardinian charm and I think this resort is wonderful. Thank you, Forte!

We spent a great 10-days at the Forte Village in Sardinia, with our two teenage sons. The resort is excellent for people with kids of any age who need occupying. The resort organises a wide variety of activities from boxing to dancing and go-karting to football. To get the most from this resort a little pre-planning is helpful, whether that is where you want to eat to what activities you want to do.

I’ve stayed at Pineta a few times over the years at Forte Village Resort and I have to say this was absolutely my best trip yet. The manager (Mara) and her team (in particular Roberto and Francesca) could not have been more accommodating. They are professional, friendly and do all they can to make your stay as enjoyable as possible - thank you for everything! The rooms themselves have been improved over the years to a level now where they are quietly impressive. Clean styling, good air conditioning, great toiletries and everything you need to enjoy a perfect holiday. The ground floor rooms are very spacious and have nice outdoor areas in the shade of the pine trees, with the upstairs Superior Terrace Rooms all coming with a balcony, but being slightly smaller. The hotel is also in a very convenient location in the Resort - being close to both the beach, pools, main reception and sports pitches; but being far enough away from the main square to enjoy peace and quiet if preferred. I can wholeheartedly recommend staying in Pineta at Forte Village!
