Not the Savoy but good nevertheless! Hotel, beach and grounds are well-presented and quiet when we stayed in early June. Friendly efficient staff in all areas. Food was excellent but Italian dinners are too generous for me. I cannot eat starters, two main courses one of which is pasta, and a sweet course. Quality was superb, especially the seafood. Breakfast was served from a well-stocked buffet catering for all tastes. Our room was clean and comfortable. Wifi access was erratic.

Room Tip: Request a sea view; rooms at the rear overlook hotel services and parking.

We arrived at hotel Abi d'Oru last summer around 6pm, opened our bags abd jumped into the sea which is about 100m from the hotel! The water is absolutely marvellous. Those were very nice days indeed. If you want to see the surroundings and look for other beaches, you have to rent a car. Sardinia is a lovely island and this hitel is well located, 20 km from Olbia. We rented a car at the airport.
The hotel itself is quite good for a beach hotel (although the prices are quite expensive, depending of course on the time of the year), nothing too fancy. On the negative side I would point out the terribly slow service in the restaurant.
Nothing to do with the hotel, of course, but be aware of the flight connections with Rome - it was a nightmare. Sardinia airlines is not to be trusted.

Hotel is nice located on a beautiful beach right by the hotel. Beach area is clean und staff friendly. Part of the beach are open for public with some nice not expensive snack bars. Pool area is very nice, clean and staff are friendly. Restaurant has a very nice terrace for romantic dinner and nice see side view. Food is o.k. but not special Italian. Selection of food from buffet and a la cart menu is some how limited. After three days.........
Hotel rooms are very old and desperately need to be refurnished including bathroom. Would highly recommend to book rooms 1st or 2nd floor. Summery of our 10 days stay, we have seen it but not again.

Room Tip: Highly recommend to book rooms 1st or 2nd floor for couples.

Yes, Abi d’Oru is not a Hilton 5* hotel with spa-facilities etc… And yes, Abi d’Oru is not a trendy fancy super-modern hotel that you can find in many other cities…
But… Abi d’Oru is a very nice Sardinian style hotel with an authentic character.

I do prefer a very clean authentic hotel above a super-modern design hotel where cleanliness is not appropriate. I quote this hotel 5* from a cleanliness point of view caused by a well-staffed team of room maids. The hotel also got a marvelous garden with a pool, swimming pool and beach area. It covers a well maintained grass field.

Our room was a Superior room with sea view and it was spacious with 2 bath rooms and a large terrace area. It fits well for my small family with one baby.

The swimming pool area was large, clean and very quiet. Behind the pool’s bar there was a small plastic garden-house located which was very attractive to play with for our baby-girl.

The beach was busy but not too busy for the September period we were visiting this hotel. Very clean beach well maintained by the beach boys offering sufficient shadow via sufficient umbrellas.

I was extremely pleased about the restaurant team: apparently negative Tripadvisor comments from past years have made the hotel mgmt team to start all over with a complete new young team.
This team was very professional but extremely friendly. I may say that I’ve noticed several waiters and waitresses with potentials to grow into their job and to get into a “maître d’hotel” function rather soon than late! Breakfast was very good with a wide offer in buffet-form. Dinner was covered by a buffet appetizer format followed by a menu-first meal and menu-second meal. A buffet dessert was finishing off the dinner.

I was a bit concerned about all the WiFi stories I read. But I managed to get connected every single day. It does need some work (disconnect and reconnect) but ultimately you manage to get and stay connected.

Downside of all the good news are the drinks and more specifically their prices: a beer or glass of wine for Eur 7 is over-the-top. Wine offered at dinner starting from Eur25 for a 375ml bottle (from which I’ve seen the 750ml bottle at Eur10 in the supermarket) doesn’t sound right. I tend to recommend the hotel mgmt to revisit their pricing policy by lowering the margin, pushing for higher consumption (so profits would be kept stable) ultimately ending up in happier customers and less bar tenders being rather unemployed…

==> Overall I do recommend this hotel for people looking for a relaxing hotel with calm hotel guests not fighting at a dinner buffet in an authentic Sardinian stylish hotel but mind the drinks pricing!

I stayed here with 4 girlfriends. The rooms were lovely. The hotel was a little quiet as we went the week after the "tourist" season. The food was out of this world. We did an "all inclusive" trip form Switzerland, so, breakfast and dinner were included in the rate. The beach area was clean. The staff were friendly. It is a little isolated, but, a taxi was readily available to take us to surrounding areas - at a reasonable rate. The hotel also assisted in day excursions. We did a boat tour around the islands which was spectacular. I hope to return one day.

Room Tip: Ask for a large room with balcony.

We spent 2 weeks at the abi d'oru hotel in August 2012. The personnel is extremely polite and helpful, food is good (but not excellent) both at the main and at the beach restaurants.

The beach (which borders on a series of beach clubs accessible to the public) is right in front of the hotel, this being Sardinia the sea is very nice; however the beach is crowded - getting loungers right in front of the sea is almost impossible in high season - and there are a lot of goods peddles walking the beach.
The pool is nice and used only by a few people.

The hotel is a bit tired and not really an international level 5 star. it does not have a SPA, or a beauty centre, the bar is small and a bit sad. Entertainment is scarce.

Overall it is a nice place for a family holiday, but too expensive for what it offers.

Be careful when planning to combine your holidays with some work - WiFi does not work in the rooms and is very poor in the reception area! Be ready to waste a lot of time trying to read your mails (which is unacceptable for being considered a 5 star hotel in nowdays).

Free WiFi is available in the rooms, common areas and by the swimming pool. Among the many available activities: sports, ancient sailboat rental, golf at the Pevero Golf Club, excursions to Porto Rotondo, Porto Cervo and to the most important archeological areas of the island, wine and food tastings.
