I have been traveling to Italy for over 25 years, and I have never been treated this poorly. We arrived at around 1400 local time, and walked up waiting for a greeting. After standing for 10 minutes we sat down at a table amongst the other patrons in a restaurant which I estimated to be only 30% full. We sat at the table for 30 minutes never even having a Bon Giorno or any acknowledgment. After the 30 minutes, we got up to walk out and at that time, a waiter comes over after we are about five steps away from the table. I have never been discriminated as a tourist, and I did observe most people were locals there. I guess they take care of the regulars first. If you have a lot of time and just want to be ignored, or want to rest your feet, stop in here, they won't bother you taking up space there. I wish I could have reviewed the food, but I guess they didn't want us to have any.
