Great small hotel if you want to avoid standardized, impersonal hotels with no Italians. Nice mixture of guests: Italians and other nationalities, young couples and families. Beautiful pool, high standard of cleanliness, friendly staff (who were always willing to help me practice my rusty Italian), excellent and plentiful food, walking distance to a beach, and a bit longer but pleasant walk into the town. Highly recommend.

We booked very last minute as we couldn't decide where to go. When arriving I couldn't remember which one it was as I had looked at so many online but as we got a little lost driving from the airport we asked directions in a near by hotel in Cala donone which turned out to be one I had nearly booked. Thank goodness it wasn't our hotel, the small pool was heaving with very loud music and lots of pool side entertainment...not our scene.
When we arrived at the beautiful nuraghe arvu it was quiet, lovely pool with only a few guests using it. The staff are great, we booked a standard room but they upgraded us to a pool and sea view double. The terrace had a breakfast table, and somewhere to hang wet towels.
The whole stay has been restful, romantic and everything you need is close by. We did have a car which was great as we could visit beaches around the island but of you want to stay in cala donone it is not essential. 10/10 the ONLY slight annoyance was that you can hear the music from the hotel behind.

The hotel/pool/rooms are very nice. BUT we had paid
ahead for half-board when we made our reservation.
The dinners were awful, and we couldn't get our money back.
e.g., one night the entree was boiled goat backbone, which
was as awful as it sounds. It appeared that the food
was much better for those not on half-board, so clearly
the management had decided to take advantage of
people who had already paid for half-board.
(Also, note that the hotel is a steep walk down to the beach.)

Room Tip: ask for quiet, some rooms are very close to a disco restaurant

Great place. I attended a small, 30-person "rock climbing" conference in June. My family and I had a wonderful time. The restaurant/staff served pleasing food and a wide variety of dishes. My 4-year old loved the huge swimming pool.

Room Tip: The balconies on the suites are HUGE!

The hotel, located about a mile above and outside town, reminded me of a Greek resort, all whitewashed with bougainvillea tracing arched doorways and a lovely, large free-form swimming pool. Our sea view standard room was like a little casita with a large terrace bisected by a blue dovecote tower and a view of the Tyrrhenian Sea in the distance. it was basic but lovely with traditional furnishings...wooden headboard, Sardi ceramic lamps and the quail symbol embroidered in the daybed linens. However, the tile floor was dirty (many of the hotels on our trip don’t seem to wash the tile floors so flip flops are helpful). The tiled bathroom had a small shower enclosure, sink and toilet in one room. There was a safe and minibar we could use.

We were tired from driving all day so just ate in the hotel dining room although I had read mediocre reviews about it. It was decorated with charming turquoise wooden chairs and tables but, common to many restaurants on our trip, too brightly lit. We would’ve preferred to eat outside but it was too cool. The food was Ok, the service very good, and the local red Cannonau wine excellent.

The next morning’s large breakfast buffet was the best we’ve encountered on our trip (including Corsica) so far. It included yogurt, fruit salad, small pears and peaches, fig tarte, cheeses and hams, scrambled eggs, etc. Lovely to sit outside on their terrace.

Had a perfect day renting a zodiac from Cielomar in town and traveling down the Gulfo Orosei. Beware stopping at Cala Biriola because a huge boat disgorges many tourists who wreck the pristine ambiance.

People have complained about the disco noise, which we could hear, but it didn't bother us.l

The last morning we had to leave by 7am before breakfast, and the managment made us a capuccino and gave us a cornetto to fortify us for the drive to Cagliari.

Room was very dark and actually had just one very little window and a door and terasse towards the pool. as there was not much going on in June we didn't have a problem with that. otherwise the room was clean and so was the bathroom. both a bit outdated or *original* if you prefer that term. What was a big disappointment was the food: the chef was completely overwhelmed by the demand when we ate there and it took 60-90min to serve the first plate. the food was completely cold and absolutely uneatable. At least the wine was good, so that helped us a bit over the "experience". Unless this was a big bad coincidence I simply couldn't recommend dining there. Waste of time and money (oh and despite us complaining, we had to pay the full price for a dinner we didn't eat). Again, I know I'm in Italy and I know it's a 4 star hotel, but that was completely unacceptable for an à la carte menue and spoiled our stay in the hotel itself, but as the surounding landscape and the mediteranian are just awesome, we normally don't spend a lot of time in the hotel anyways...
Overall: We would probably not return if we don't have to... but at least the 4 star basics where all met (except the dinner of course)

Room Tip: Choose a room in the back somewhere, away from the pool and the restaurant...

Positives - although august hotel was relatively quiet and the spacious pool was never busy. Restaurant food and service was great. Rooms were basic but very clean. Nice size hotel, not big and impersonal. Nice playground for kids.
Cons - a bit expensive, was inflexible about providing kettle for making baby milk even though paid over 200£ for suite. Need car but area beautiful. Dinner bit late for small kids but after begging bought food forwards by 30 minutes. At night outside can be bit noisy from neighbouring hotels having weddings.
