If you live on the road and are condemned by corporate or government rates to mid-tier hotels, you already know what a RI is like and this one is as good as any of them. It's reasonably clean and most of the staff is friendly and attentive, although I found most of the desk staff just civil. I was surprised that a hotel in an urban area does not have key-card access required for the elevator. The fitness room is well-appointed, but each item of cardio equipment is in need of professional adjustment. When staying over the weekend, at breakfast be prepared for a crush of precocious little darlings whose parents are either notably absent or notably uninvolved. On that same subject, those tables don't wipe themselves, so consider leaving a buck or two for the folks who clean up after you at breakfast and the evening meal. If you're in town to work and you need a quiet place to sleep with a reasonably-appointed room for meetings, you should be happy with RIBC.

Great budget hotel for a very expensive area to stay in. I had a large room with a living room. The room furniture was a bit outdated but they had a couple large LCDs in the living room and bedroom. Convenient if you're spending a lot of time in Cambridge, especially the MIT area. Close to lots of food and the metro station.

We just returned from a 4 night stay at this hotel. It was excellent. The room was spacious and well appointed. The bed was comfortable and it was nice to have a kitchenette. The breakfast was outstanding every morning. Eggs, sausage, various breakfast potatoes, waffles, pancakes, cereals and assorted fruits and breads. The hotel is a 2-3 block walk from the Kendall/MIT subway stop so it was convenient to Harvard and to downtown Boston. We will absolutely stay here again on our next trip to Boston.

We arrived at 1:00 p.m. from airport and were in our room immediately. We were in town to visit MIT and were upgraded to a two bedroom suite which was very spacious and included a full kitchen (perfect for warming up left over pizza and late night popcorn). Breakfast was plentiful with many choices each morning and even had complimentary evening meals Tuesday-Thursday. The staff is friendly and very accomodating; They go above and beyond to make you feel at home. The T is right around the corner and MIT is about two blocks-easy walk. Will definitely return.

We spent the weekend at the Marriott Residence Inn when we took our son to visit the MIT campus. It's conveniently located within walking distance to MIT. We also used Marriott points to book two rooms. The hotel itself is average and a bit worn as far as the furnishings in the rooms. Our two kids shared one room and there was only one queen sized bed in each of our rooms so one of our kids slept on the uncomfortable pullout in the living area. We wished one of the rooms would have had two beds. The free breakfast provided in the morning was nice and saved us having to go out and get extra food. There is a Starbucks and Legal Seafood restaurant right around the corner. We didn't experience any problems with noise outside of the hotel. Overall, it is adequate and convenient as far as location.

Dear Linda F,

Thanks for staying with us during your recent visit to tour MIT. I’m glad that you were able to use points during your stay, but apologize that you found the room furnishings to be worn. Please feel free to contact me directly to provide detailed information about your room stay, so I can replace the sofabed mattress in the necessary room.

We have already begun the planning phase to renovate all of the guest rooms late in 2013 as part of our normal room renovation cycle. And, I am excited that the lobby and Gatehouse will begin renovations in the early Spring of 2013. If you should find yourself returning, we do offer a variety of room types, including rooms with two queen beds.

Thank you again for posting your comments to TripAdvisor, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Kind regards,

John Wilmoth

This hotel has become our go-to place when visiting Boston. The location is very good -- it's not in the hectic center of Boston yet it's only a 3-4 minute walk to the Kendall Square subway station so that getting anywhere is easy. And,there are more than a few good dining options within easy walking distance.

It's a standard design urban Residence Inn that appears to be being well-maintained. Standards of cleanliness seem to be quite high.

The people who work at this Residence Inn make it into a special place to visit rather than just being another hotel. Based on our experience, the front desk staff will do their very best to make sure that each guest's stay is as comfortable as it can be. And, day in and day out, the food service team personifies the word "hospitality."

You will feel very welcome when you stay at this hotel.

Room Tip: Street noise can be an issue

My hubby, 16 year old son, and I spent Columbus Day week-end at the Residence Inn in Cambridge while on college tours. Our room was very spacious, with a full kitchen, living area, bedroom area, and bathroom. The place was immaculate and well decorated. The toilet/shower area was a bit tight, but the sink/closet area was spacious. The staff at the hotel went out of their way to accomodate! Unfortunately, the folks at the front desk the night we came in weren't familiar with the area and couldn't direct us to a local, late-night place to eat. The breakfast buffet (included) was delicious...though I would have liked some fresh fruit. One warning: there are two Marriotts on this road within a block of each other; after arriving after a 5 hour drive, we unloaded everything to go in to check-in, only to find the Residence Inn was down the block a bit more. We were right around the block from the "T" station. The hotel charges a fee to park, and it is the same fee charged by the public parking lot. I would have expected some type of discount. All in all, I would highly recommend staying here!
