Harvard Square Hotel has had major renovations, and we enjoyed a large, well-appointed corner room with nice city views.... pleasantly surprised from previous stays, which were ok, but nothing special. The king bed was very comfortable. A min-fridge was part of the desk ensemble. Staff was welcoming and helpful with a delayed check-out til 2 pm. The Harvard Square location can't be beat.

This is a very comfortable limited service hotel right in the middle of all that Harvard Square has to offer - shopping, restaurants, activities. The building has been there for many many years but a recent total renovation of the interior has made it a bright, cheerful, place to stay. The rooms are on the small side but the space is cleverly used and attractively done. Beds are terrific. The staff are pleasant and helpful. I highly recommend staying here.....food and drink nearby and offer food from classic New England to multi star venues and a world of ethnic choices. A very full service fitness center is across the street as well. Despite being next to the elevator on our last stay we found it to be very quiet.

Room Tip: Rooms with odd numbers are on the back where it probably is quieter. 4th floor has exceptionally la...

This hotel is at the perfect location for anyone visiting the Harvard area ! I used to go to Harvard and don't even remember seeing this hotel here but now that I visit the area it's right in the center of everything. On Saturday nights the square is busy and full of fun things to do and see. The atmosphere is alive and loved walking down memory lane of my college years. I will be staying here again on my next Boston trip. Plus the staff gave me a great recommendation to the Russell House Tavern where I enjoyed great drinks and again enjoyed the Harvard atmosphere! A Must Stay and Must Eat if you visit Harvard !!!

Room Tip: Harvard view room is great but I've heard the back rooms are quieter so whatever your preference...

Perfectly situated and cleverly refurbished hotel at much lower prices than the super fancy Charles Hotel across the street. Smallish room but cheerfully decorated and very clean. My room on the 4th floor was quiet and the bed, the pillows were very comfortable. And all within walking distance to the T, to buses and anything to do with the college. Front desk personnel were very friendly and professional.

Room Tip: I liked the 4th floor, very quiet.

Location is central. This place is something between a hostel and a hotel - no room service, restaurant, hotel gym on the premises, minibar or other amenities. Was offered a room directly across from the elevators, which would have been too noisy for my preference, on the basis that this was the only king room available. I personally saw fewer than 5 guests during my short stay, but the issue was resolved. Would not stay here again especially given it was only marginally cheaper than the 5-star Charles Hotel directly next door.

Room Tip: Don't assume you are being offered the best room available.

First let me say that the hotels location was perfect for anyone wanting to be near Harvard. My meeting was literally only a five minute walk from the hotel. The staff was great and very friendly. The front desk was able to get me a room with a king bed and a good view upon my arrival. The housekeepers were very quiet and friendly! The only complaint I have is the size of the rooms and the lobby. With my suit cases in the room there was barely any space but the room was very modern and cozy. The lobby also is small but it didn't really affect my stay because I was only there for two nights.

$339.00 + tax. As if IKEA & Motel 6 merged & created a hotel. As first blush, minimalist and cute (the website photos). Stay here and you soon have a different view. You quickly feel gouged and foolish for paying these prices. (The Charles next door is only few dollars more and is an excellent, full service hotel). What you get at HSH: clean room, decent bed, near Harvard Square. What you do not get: no average-sized rooms, you get an absolutely comedically tiny room where you can barely move; no wood or metal, that is, everything is made of particle board (just like IKEA); no HD TV; no comfortable chair-just desk chair wedged between tiny desk and bed; no fitness room; no bar; no restaurant or cafe (the tiny elevator has a button marked: "Cafe," however joke is on the guest if you push it, leads to employee break room in basement. tThey will sell you cereal bars & coffee @ Manhattan prices in the lobby]; no bottled water in room (you can buy a fittingly tiny 1/2 bottle for $2.68 in lobby); and then little touches that show you what the owners are really up to. Went to write a note to accompany a tip to housekeeping in my room. Oops, no pen or paper. Too expensive to provide for guests. No pen and little pad of paper, really? Closet with doors? Too expensive for the HSH, instead they cut a 30 inch hole the wall and installed a rod. Bathroom with vanity or shelf to hold toiletries? Not a chance, a microscopic little shelf above the portable free standing little Home Depot sink. And on and on. Why would anyone who cared at all about value for one's money spend $339 to stay here when there are so many other choices?

Room Tip: go elsewhere
