After driving by several times and seeing the A-frame board proclaiming "Now serving food" we decided to try it out, hoping it would be similar to The Druid (Inman Sq) of old. Checked out the menu online and it looked nice and basic so we stopped in for lunch on a Monday. So did several vagrant-type folks who appear to make this place their home. We ordered an appetizer and when we got our food we were told that the kitchen was going to be shutting down soon and it was 2:45 in the afternoon (website says the kitchen is open until 10pm). We had been planning on ordering the rest of our lunch but....you don't anger the kitchen. Our server was distracted to the point where we could have walked out and have been blocks away before he would have ever known that we had left without paying. We did pay but with cash because here at The Field in 2013 they don't accept cards. The chicken tenders we got weren't the best or worst we've ever had but just go to The Burren in Davis Square instead - better Irish charm and the kitchen is always open.

The proprietor is Irish and the staff he hires as well. The beer selection is great and the place looks like its been airlifted from Dublin. In so far as you want authentic Irish pub food.. the menu does not disappoint. But there is a reason that the Irish are not known for their food you know.

Stopped into The Field recently during a trip to Cambridge. Other reviewers who claim they pour a perfect Guinness(or other beer) are dead on, and the atmosphere in this place is pretty sweet. When we were there it was pretty crowded, but not too much that we couldn't grab 4 spots in the corner of the bar. Prices weren't too bad and the bartenders were attentive for the most part. However, one of the reasons we went there was because the Celtics were playing the Kings, and this being an Irish bar you would assume they would have the city's Irish named basketball team on tv right? Well, sadly you would be wrong, as their 4 big screen tv's were all on the Cowboys-Redskins football game, which almost no one in the bar seemed to be watching I might add. If I hadn't had a frustrating experience the night before with watching the Celtics at The Fours, I would've asked them to change the channel, but I didn't even feel like it. Anyways, while I do feel my 4 star rating for this bar is appropriate because it is a pretty cool place, I guess i'll have to go down the street to Tavern on the Square for my BOSTON sports viewing next time.

They pour a great Guinness. Definite Irish pub scene. Food options are limited and mediocre (dried-out burgers, greasy fried fish). Very noisy and small.

First and formost they pour Guinness correctly here no matter how busy they are.

I go here when friends come to town, when we catch the last train into central. It is a really great bar to spend the whole night as well. During summer the outdoor biergarten makes it the best spot in central to relax and enjoy the evening breeze. The food is consistently good, thick cut fries, nice burger really all the essential pub food is offered.
