People from around the world come to visit and learn about holograms, kinetic art, artificial intelligence and original research that has shaped the world. FebFest and the Cambridge Science Festival fill winter and spring school vacation weeks, while the very fun "Friday After Thanksgiving" chain reaction event is held nearby at an MIT gymnasium, while produced by the Museum. The MIT Museum also has a physical and online science-themed store, and the galleries are available for small functions. Located in the Central Square Cultural District the MIT Museum is surrounded by unique restaurants, theaters, music venues and a renowned local ice cream store. Look for our yellow chairs!

My brother was visiting with his kids from out of town and wanted to check out this museum. Two of the 4 teen boys were really into scuence so we thought we'd check out this place. It's not a huge museum only 2 floors but its jam packed with interesting interactive things to see. The hologram exhibit was one of my favorites. I also liked the interactive art. Downstairs are exhibits about video games and airport advances for safety. Very different stuff on gift shop too.

In the late sixties, Lady Bird Johnson (wife of US President Lyndon B. Johnson) visited MIT and praised this "great Trade School". No comment. Texans...
MIT has several museums. The Hayden library adjunct and the elegant List Center Museums have always tried to feature cutting edge exhibitions. And the museum close to Central Square (where MIT has performed urban architectural miracles) is a neat place to visit for the history of technology and ensuing artifacts. It should be combined with a visit to the Mass Ave campus of MIT and all buildings that, in contrast to Harvard, are accessible to all.

A very engaging and experiential museum focusing on technology's place in society and history. Sort of like The Children's Museum for adults. A great place to spend a couple of hours.

I spend five hours, and could have spend more, but had to run. The robot movies alone were an hour and a half, narrated by Alan Alda and covering different areas of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics. Then, the models, the kinetic toys, the holography gallery and more and more.
Being part of MIT places it in Cambridge. My cab driver had no clue where to look for it, but thanks to modern phones I guided him to the otherwise undistinguished building.

If you have time after that visit, walk slowly over the Longfellow bridge and admire the blue waters of the Charles river. In my case, I did it at the end of the afternoon and blue waters were the foreground for foliage on the shore and little white boats in the water
