Owner description: The MIT Museum presents temporary and permanent exhibitions at the nexus of art, science, and technology, as well as events, programs, and weekend demonstrations. People from around the world come to visit and learn about holograms, kinetic art, artificial intelligence and original research that has shaped the world. FebFest and the Cambridge Science Festival fill winter and spring school vacation weeks, while the very fun "Friday After Thanksgiving" chain reaction event is held nearby at an MIT gymnasium, while produced by the Museum. The MIT Museum also has a physical and online science-themed store, and the galleries are available for small functions. Located in the Central Square Cultural District the MIT Museum is surrounded by unique restaurants, theaters, music venues and a renowned local ice cream store. Look for our yellow chairs!

This is not a large museum, so spending a couple of hours should cover it all. There isn't much on the ground floor, most of the exhibits are upstairs and those were quite cool. There are some displays of robots, hologram (awesome!) and some kinetic installations which were really cool, some of which you could interact with. The gift shop on the ground floor has some pretty good items to take home. I was in Boston for over a week so I had time to visit this place, but if you're on a tight schedule, I'd suggest you skip this.

My husband is an engineer, and as soon as he found out about the existence of this museum (soon after we moved to the Boston area), he wanted to go check it out. We were in the neighborhood the other day and decided to stop in. Here are my overall thoughts (as someone who does not work in any of the scientific professions). First, the museum was quite a bit smaller than I thought it would be. I went, thinking that we'd spend the afternoon there, but really an hour or two was enough. They've done a nice job of selecting exhibits that appeal to a wide variety of people. I thought the exhibit on robotics was interesting, but my favorite two exhibits were: 1) an exhibit about everyday household items and the stories behind them; and 2) an "art" exhibit consisting of art pieces made of small, working machines of various kinds. For only an hour or two's worth, I thought the admission price (about $8.50/adult) is a little steep. However, if you have a Bank of America card, the first weekend of every month is free -- something to keep in mind if you have one and are interested in seeing the museum.

Very interesting and unique museum. This inexpensive yet unique museum contains exhibits you will not see anywhere else. Many early stage research that has know become mainstream. Exhibits include both medical and high tech inventions. Fun for adults as well as families.
