“An Anchor in the Central Sq. area”

The Middle East Restaurant and Nightclub
Reviewed October 14, 2013

The Middle East club has made several upgrades over the years. From its modest start to its now complete domination of the corner of Mass Ave and Brookline St in Central Square in Cambridge It has shown a commitment to presenting a ton of great music and performers over the years. The Downstairs bar has the space and support to host many Major National Acts while giving the extremely fertile Boston music scene access to these shows. So on any nite you may see an touring national as well as a group that is 18 months away from blowing up worldwide. Its a cool scene on most nites, check the website for a better callender. The Upstairs is the original space, much much more intimate. Yet, you may see a really energetic group that has the small space crowd going nuts. Great food if you are there and hungry, theres more to this place than just these two spaces. Overall, Central Square is fun and right on the T so you can get in and out during the operational times. Enjoy

The Middle East hosts a variety of bands, from big names to small local groups, plus spoken word acts and all kinds of other interesting things. It's definitely one of the top venues in town, and there's always something going on. It's been around seeming forever. The downstairs can feel like a hot sweaty cave when it's crowded, but that's just part of the experience.

It's not gourmet, but the food is tasty, and the service friendly. Outdoor tables is a great place for a bite and a pint on a warm day. Definitely worth a stop.

Food was good service was nonexistent . One table besides ours, who was finishing up, staff just standing around talking or shall I say screaming cause of music being so loud. Food was slow to arrive and staff never checked on us after delivery.

Went to the Middle East on February 2, 2013 to see Big Dipper in concert. Great show, great band. I know this place isn't the snazziest place on earth but I love going there to see live music. It's intimate and everyone sounds great there. No matter where you stand you have an excellent view of the band. A great night as usual and seeing one of my favorite bands of all time made it special for us.
