On vacation in Boston for my birthday and enjoyed a great meal at Asmara. I love Ethiopian food and always eat in when I'm in northern virginia and dc. Hard to find good Ethiopian food in NY so I get very excited when I hear there's good Ethiopian food around or in this case Eritrea food. Love the traditional seating and homemade honey wine that works well with the spicy kitfo. We ordered the meat combo and kitfo platter. Everything was well spiced and balanced, loved the salad which helped to balance the spiciness of the meat dishes. Also loved the 2 different types of injera one a little nuttier in taste. Service was well paced and very friendly. Great way to spend a birthday.

This was my first time trying erythrean / ethiopian food and it won t be the last ;-)
The food was amazing. We were 3 and ordered 1 vegeterian menu and 2 mixed meats menu. It was all serve in the same plate with a fabulous bread to be used. It was very tasty, not too hot, really perfect. The prices were also ok. The menu are approx $15/16 which is ok for the amount of food we had.
The staff was very attentive also.
Overall great food experience

One of the best meals I have had in ages. This is a food experience not to be missed.
No plates, no utensils, but served in a basket with soft sponge bread to eat with.
wonderful spicing, fresh and flavorful.
Small and cozy inside, a great place to take friends and share a social meal.

To be honest, I have only had their vegetarian entrees, which have always been delicious, a generous portion, and ultimately very satisfying. The whole njara bread plate thing is really cool, but i also must admit I an a big fan of all regional flat breads. It was really cool when i first stated going and they had the neat straw round basket table things and the coffee service was extensive: but that should not be a reason not to return. Often.

Asmara is one of our favorite restaurants in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It's warm and cozy, with a top-notch attentive staff. Unless it's very crowded, you will probably be seated at one of the Ethiopian/Eritrean collective dinner settings. The food ordered by each diner is placed on a large tray lined with soft bread and served with more soft and thin bread on the side. Diners scoop up their food and eat with their hands -- no tableware needed. There is a fine selection of beers and other dining accoutrements. This is a fun and quiet place for a long and spirited dinner discussion, a great place for romance or for dinner for four.
