“Convenient and cozy”

My brother and I stayed here during a weekend event at MIT. You can tell it's an old building by the somewhat narrow hallways and the fact that there is only one elevator. While the hallways are narrow, it doesn't feel claustrophobic at all. Our room was nice; the decor is charming. Our bathroom was a good size, and there was plenty of space to put your things down. I hate it when hotels don't have anywhere for you to put your clothes while you're in the shower - where do they want us to put them, on the toilet seat!? Ew. That wasn't a problem in the bathroom here - they had a nice big shelf over the sink, as well as an old chest-type thing to set stuff on. The bed and pillows were very comfortable and our room was nice and quiet.
The only things the hotel room was missing were a fridge and extra outlets to plug electronic gadgets into. Maybe this is just a factor of the age of the building, though.

Free wifi and free breakfast were great perks. The breakfast was excellent - lots of food choices (eggs, bacon, waffles, pancake, cereal, fruit, toast, pastries...) and the staff keeps a close eye on it to make sure everything is stocked and fresh.

Speaking of the staff, everyone we encountered was very courteous.

Lastly, the location is great! We didn't rent a car, so we took MBTA from the airport to the hotel. It's only about a one minute walk from the subway station to the hotel, and less than 5 minutes away from MIT. There are several restaurants to choose from within walking distance as well.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to people looking for something a little bit different than the usual big chain hotels.

We stayed at the hotel last week. Hotel decoration is cute and very close to MIT. Very close to Old town trolley stop. Breakfast is just average (Exactly same choices of food for the three days we stayed there). For the price we paid, and the inconvenience and expensive ($25/day) parking, I'd rather stay at another hotel next time.

We stayed at the hotel in 2007 when it was undergoing renovations, and we liked it so much that we chose it again for our recent trip to Boston (June 27-July 1). It is a charming, family-owned hotel, and a very good value for the price. Above-average buffet breakfast (love the crispy bacon and flaky pastries; also features pancakes, scrambled eggs, toast, yogurt, juice), free wifi, charming rooms, good restaurant. Parking below the hotel at $25/day (it's an older building with a small parking area, so be prepared to manoeuver carefully into your spot if you have a larger car). Kendall/MIT red line "T" station is less than a block from the hotel, so it's easy to zip around the city (a 7-day transit pass costs $18). If you like to walk, much of downtown Boston is within walking distance - our walk back to the hotel from Fenway Park at a moderate pace took about 40 minutes. It's also a good place to go for a run, over the bridge, along the water or around campus. Even if your plans are to see the Boston sights, keep in mind that Cambridge is also a fun place to explore. The hotel is right in the midst of MIT, and two T stops or a 20-minute walk from Harvard Square. If you have the time, visit the nearby MIT Museum and have a drink or meal at the Miracle of Science pub.

Room Tip: If you're a light sleeper, you may want to ask for a room further from the elevator.

The hotel is in a great location - right beside an underground and also on the tourbus route, with a nice relaxed pub, Meadhall, just 5 mins walk away.

Complimentary coffee was available all day, and the breakfast was fab (homemade berry scones, mmm!)

The staff were friendly and the room was clean - can't complain!

Three colleagues and I recently stayed in this hotel for a week, for an annual conference in the area. The location is perfect if you have business at M.I.T.; Harvard is 10 minutes away. The rooms are comfortable, decorated in a light Americana motif, and each room seems to be slightly unique. The hotel has "character", in the sense that its B&B-like frontage and relatively small common spaces (which nevertheless are not crowded) offer a more informal and decidedly less corporate feel than upscale chain hotels. It's not a place for people who want to be constantly facilitated by hotel staff. There's always one helpful person stationed behind the small front desk, but not a fawning flotilla of people with name plates.
For better or worse, here are a few of the hotel's idiosyncrasies: (1) The breakfast buffet is set out in a side room on the main floor, which you take to the cafe portion of the main front area to sit down, where good coffee is available. The breakfast food is fine, although I think they can do better in terms of preserves than putting out a plate with an unchanging mound of strawberry jam every morning. At night the cafe (which has an outside terrace) serves dinner, and it's very good. (2) Some rooms have minor external noise issues, which seem to come from the HVAC system or from MIT facilities on the back side, but this didn't affect the four of us (also, the room that I was in had no light above the shower, so I had to move a table lamp into the bathroom), (3) Wifi in the rooms is excellent, but is a bit dodgy in the cafe and ground floor, depending on where you sit, and (4) The parking spaces in the basement offer a tight fit for most vehicles, especially in this era of bulging SUV's, but it's negotiable.
The neighborhood of the Kendall is a mix of MIT buildings, office buildings, and retail stores. It's not particularly congested or noisy. Two popular, interesting restaurants are only two blocks away.
The bottom line for us: We'll return. The human feel of the place is a relief from the programmed courtesy and over familiarity of the hotel chains.

Stayed a long weekend in Boston at this Cambridge gem. Room was great. Clean and comfortable. Free wi-fi. Breakfast included in rate and was fabulous. Coffee hot all day. Restaurant in lobby was very convenient with good menu. 'T' is steps from hotel making it a convenient location for anything you might want to do.

I only stay at the Kendall when travelling in Cambridge. The staff is always helpful and professional. I have not been disappointed with the food (breakfast and dinner). It's nice to have a glass of wine on the patio after work. The rooms make you feel like you're at home.

Room Tip: Never had a bad room
