During my daughter’s four years in college, we searched Boston for that perfect hotel that we could call home. The Kendall Hotel was that and much, much more. If you like doormen, bellmen, room service, lavish amenities, and modern furnishings, this hotel is not for you. But, if you like a hotel that makes you feel at home with welcoming smiles from staff members who are passionate about making sure you have everything you need to be comfortable, a bowl piled with crisp, green apples to eat, a living room full of interesting books, and cozy chairs to relax in after a long day in the city, a small restaurant that serves delicious local cuisine and serves up a wonderful complimentary buffet breakfast complete with homemade bread and jams and finally, well kept rooms that are uniquely shaped and furnished in an Early American East Coast style with plush, comfortable beds, and many more thoughtful details, than this is the place for you. The hotel, which sits in the shadow of neighboring MIT buildings, inhabits an old firehouse that adds much charm and history to your experience. It is one block away from the “T” station, or easy walking distance of Beacon Hill area just across the river, or a short cab ride to most places in the Back Bay or Cambridge. Thank you Kendall hotel, Brenda and staff for your gracious hospitality during our stays. You made our time with you very special. We hope to see you one day soon...

Room Tip: Every room is unique. It took staying at the hotel a few times to discover my favorites. The hotel...

I have a cooperation with MIT and typically try to stay at the Kendall since it is nice and nearby. Breakfast is included and I like the charm of the hotel. It can be pricy depending on the events nearby (commencement week, this rowing contest) but then all hotels nearby are pricy. This stay I had a king bed room.

This historical property was perfect for my four day stay in Boston area. Staff was very friendly, attentive and welcoming. Beautifully appointed property with antiques/folk art. My room was lovely, comfy bed, very clean. (Yummy breakfast too!) I'll definitely stay again next time I visit.

Stayed at the Kendall for 4 days while attending meeting at MIT

The Kendall is great boutique hotel in Cambridge. Rooms are a good size, beds are very comfortable. Rooms and hotel very clean. Breakfast is a fantastic buffet with hot food / continental style options. Staff very friendly. Internet access included in the room rate. Tea and coffee making facilities in room but no fridge in room.

Cambridge is over the river but Boston city is easily accessible by approx 20 minute walk across the bridge or a 5 minute subway ride. The hotel is directly opposite the MIT subway station.

The areas mostly caters to students, MIT / university staff and business workers (mostly IT / medical) There are lots of cafes and restaurants within a short walk of the hotel and downtown Boston and Harvard Square only a short subway or taxi ride.

Overall a fantastic value for money option especially if you want to be close to MIT / Cambridge.

This hotel looked and sounded more interesting online than it proved to be. There is a new 7 story addition, but even there the halls are narrow and the ceilings as low as 6'6", which was awkward for my tall spouse. We were upgraded to a suite, which of course is a real plus, and still our experience was only so-so. Our room #611, had an annoying non-stop mechanical hum and was quite dark due to its orientation and energy efficient bulbs. Construction across the street went 24/7 but wasn't loud as the work is behind glass, but it was brightly lit, and too loud to leave a window open. The bath area was very nice, the bed comfortable, although the rubber pillow and the stiff feather pillow weren't too great. The decor was OK, but the dark yellow-green paint was a downer. Kitchen would certainly meet expectations (although dark).Breakfast was buffet style, tepid scrambled eggs, unripened melons, overcooked oatmeal, etc, that we carried back into the lobby area that serves as the restaurant. We were first to use our table and found it smeared and poorly cleaned. The maid service seemed to dominate the narrow hallways from 7 a.m. - 4 p.m. with bundles of towels tossed onto the floors, etc.The restaurant was closed for a special group the night of our stay. It felt a bit awkward to walk through the lobby to get to the elevator with the food smells and the large gathering. We were first to arrive for the wine reception, in a room smaller than I imagined. I noticed they planned to serve a bottle that had been previously opened (half-full) and the T.V. was on, so we left without partaking. Location is fantastic for M.I.T. related business and it is a quick ride to Harvard Sq. or downtown on the Red Line that is just steps away. People were friendly, but not as attentive or as polished as the setting deserves. Be aware they add in the fine print a non-negotiable service fee of about $12!

Room Tip: I would inquire about a room that faced the west (if there are any) to catch more daylight and ask a...

We appreciate your visiting the Kendall Hotel and providing feedback on your experience, but are of course quite disappointed that your stay wasn't a more pleasing one for you.
I'd like to take a minute to address the points in your review, in the hopes that you might give our property another chance.
While we understand that aesthetics are subjective to a guest's tastes, the Kendall is a popular spot and the decor a point of interest with many travelers that walk through our doors. I am happy to hear that you enjoyed our lovely bathrooms and our very comfortable beds – our guests often comment that they enjoy a great night’s sleep with us!
In regards to the construction across the street, we can't control what happens outside our doors, but we do our best to prepare visitors of any disturbances they might encounter. Fortunately, the construction is almost complete.
We were surprised to hear your comment regarding the usage fee in "fine print" as we do make a point of making sure all fees are well communicated up front; we elucidate all of our fees on our website as well as repeat that information in our confirmation emails.
On a more personal note, the comments about breakfast are so disheartening for me to read – our chef and I personally have visited with local farmers and vendors to hand pick the freshest ingredients for our buffet: eggs from a local farm, handmade scones, pancakes and French toast made from scratch, freshly-cut fruit, organic oatmeal, Vermont bacon and sausage, locally made breads and sweets, as well as our own granola served with organic yogurt and local honey. I walk through the breakfast area during breakfast hours and so enjoy hearing guests rave about our “spread” – so sad it did not leave the same impression with you.
We hope we were able to bring some sense of resolution to your less than optimal stay, and that this response might encourage you to try us again soon.

My best,
Brenda

We stayed at the Kendall last week for two nights and it was wonderful. Charming, comfortable, not a chain hotel in feel but with all the comforts including free wi-fi, free full breakfast. It's right near the "T" (subway). Just great in every way. We look forward to staying there again.

Stayed here from 10 - 12 June 2011. Rooms were clean. Location is excellent and within a short walking distance to the Kendall MIT subway station.

The Black Sheep Cafe serves excellent food.

The only downside of this hotel is limited and narrow parking spaces.
