“Decent location, lacking some basic features”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 13, 2012

I debated over this location and the chain hotel up the street but booked this one because I wanted the reward points. All in all a decent stay but next time we visit Boston I might be tempted to book elsewhere.

Pros
-Location to the T is ideal. It is half a block away and it's the end of the green line so it's not super busy with transfers. It's also a short walk to a grocery store and dunkin. We also appreciated the proximity to MIT. Getting to the red line is hassle so we just walked. It isn't the most attractive neighborhood but it's a brief walk.
-Free parking. We ditched the rental car before our stay but we had friends visiting during the day and let them use our free parking which worked out great.
-Clean and aside from the usual door slamming, quiet. The mattresses weren't the best ever but the most comfortable on our entire trip and perfectly acceptable. Although the pillows left something to be desired. The alarm clock had a sound machine feature which was nice.
-The front desk was more than helpful and were happy to hold onto our bags before and after check out.
-I wouldn't call the breakfast restaurant quality but we were able to fine enough items to keep us full until lunch.

Cons
-Seriously, why does hampton inn not invest in fans in the bathroom? It's so odd!! Also the door was too tight and would get stuck on the floor tiles. Best I could come up with is that it's a 100% privacy feature of absolutely no gap under the door but it made it annoying trying to close the door.
-We were early so we ditched the bags and went to lunch in North End. We picked up some desserts at Mikes Pastry only to come back to the hotel and realize that the rooms do not have a fridge. The lack of a fridge and microwave are literally the only reason why we probably won't be staying again.
-Some of the nice bathroom supplies from our previous stay in a Hampton Inn was missing in this one (qtips, shower cap, make up remover towel).
-Not a lot of decent food options in the immediate area (although there is a cheesecake factory within walking distance which made it extra frustrating that there wasn't a fridge or microwave so we couldn't take our leftovers). We opted to go to the North End the entire time.

Room Tip: The north point park a short walk and is an amazing find for those with kids. There are 3 separate...

Dear Jennifer R:

Thank you for your thorough review of our hotel. We appreciate you taking the time to tell others about your experiences.

We're glad you enjoyed your visit; and do apologize for the lack of refrigerators in our guest rooms. However, we do have a limited number of units available for guest use. Just check with our front desk the next time you visit. As for the bathroom fans, we do have them. However, they are air circulators and are on non-stop to circulate and cleanse the air.

We thank you again for your feedback and look forward to your return.

Sincerely,

Lisa M. O'Neil

First, the location is great. Easy to get to Boston, Cambridge and Somerville. Also close to I-93 and Route 1 so you can get around. Parking is free and included. Big plus and rare for Boston area. It's also walking distance to the Green Line. Probably closer to 20 minutes or more from the Red Line. But not too, too far.

Second, it's really nice. Very clean. Nothing fancy but definitely solid. There's laundry and dryer downstairs.

Third, free breakfast - like all Hamptons. Can't go wrong with that!

My only issue with them is the elevators (only 2) can be slow and they always stop on the Lobby level, even if you are headed to the garage. Seems to be built into the system. Other than that - it's great!

Dear Jorge M:

Thank you for taking the time to post your review. We truly appreciate it!

We're thrilled you enjoyed your stay with us; and do apologize for the frustration with our elevators. The elevator to/from the garage levels is programmed to stop at the lobby level in order to comply with local regulations.

We look forward to being your host should you travel to the Boston/Cambridge area.

Sincerely,

This is a good hotel. There are no restaurants close with the exception of the Cambridge Galleria which is a 5 minute drive or a 15 minute walk.
Rooms are clean and solid, but not spectacular. Staff is very friendly.
The only drawback is the small parking spaces underground. Overall, a solid recommendation.

Dear Jeff C:

Thank you for taking the time to write about your recent experience at the Hampton Inn Boston/Cambridge. We appreciate your thorough review.

I'm sorry you missed the great restaurants just minutes away on Cambridge Street. There are a number of restaurants to satisfy just about any craving all within a 5-15 minute walk from our front door!

Next time you're in the area, be sure to ask our Guest Service Representatives for their suggestions!

Warm regards,

Lisa M. O'Neil

Pros: good price, FREE PARKING< FREE WIFI< FREE BREAKFAST (worth @ least $60 at other Boston hotels), across the street from Lechmere station for the T and buses, walking distance to science museum & duck tours, we walked to North end, but can take T. Breakfast was good! Short walk to mall where there are some restaurants.

Cons: rooms are small, exercise room is really small and equipment needs some work(treadmill belts slipping), the area seems a little desolete, walls are thin

Room Tip: Walls are thin I would try for 7th floor so no one above you and only have to worry about the rooms...

Never having stayed at a Hampton Inn before this one definitely exceeded my expectations. Friendly helpful staff, clean room with ALL bedding washed after each guest, which I totally appreciate. Average to good breakfast. Parking included. Thought it was great.

Overall the room was clean. Rooms were small and need some renovation. Smelled a little moldy, but did not see any mold. I picked the hotel since it was close to MIT....but the truth is it isn't walking distace especially at night since the area didn't feel safe to me. No real "nice" place to eat dinner that was close by so I ended up ordering Pizza to my room. Unless you have a car, or unlimited taxi money think twice about this place. I paid $159 plus tax and felt it was expensivem for what they give you.
