My wife, teenage daughter and I just spent 3 nights at the Charles. All in all it was a good experience. During the reservation process, I had requested two king rooms, and had also requested connecting rooms. I have found that these kinds of additional requests are often ignored, but I got a quick e-mail from the hotel suggesting that if we wanted connecting rooms that we needed to switch one to a double room, which we did. The rooms were a bit pricey, especially on Sunday night when the rate jumped by $60 per night. Valet parking was very expensive.
The location is great. Any amenity you want is an easy walk. I used the hotel's bicycles twice for pleasant rides along the river, which is only 2 blocks away. There's a nice little farmer's market on the property on Sunday morning.
All of the hotel employees I worked with were friendly and helpful and competent. I have nothing but good things to say about them (though when a guest reserves a bike, it would be good if the concierge tells that to the people who distribute the bikes- I was lucky they had an extra).
The rooms were fine. I don't like watching TV in bed, so I appreciated the chair and ottoman. Bathrooms were nice. The TV service is computer based, and we had 3 crashes that disabled the TV and required a visit from maintenance. The WiFi worked well. It never seemed to get quite cool enough for us at night, but my daughter said her room was fine. Room service was reasonably prompt and the food was better than average room service food. I didn't see the workout facilities but my daughter said they were fine.
