Description: The Elephant Walk serves Award-Winning Cambodian and French cuisine. We also feature strong VEGETARIAN and GLUTEN-FREE menus! With so much depth and breadth to our menus, both exotic and familiar, we have something for just about everyone. Cambodian cooking is beautiful and delicious, but still rare in America. Less hot and sweet than Thai, richer and more complex than Vietnamese, the complex spice pastes that are the foundation of many Cambodian dishes reflect Cambodia’s Indian ancestry. Our Cambodian menu features both traditional Cambodian dishes and originals created by our Chef/Owners Longteine and Nadsa de Monteiro, a Cambodian mother-daughter team born and raised in Phnom Penh. Why French too? Cambodia was a French colony for a century, ending in the 1950s. Consequently, our chef-owners were French-educated and grew up speaking French and enjoying French cuisine too. In other words, our Cambodian-and-French theme is an authentic reflection of…us!

I had walked past this restaurant many times as it is just 3 blocks from Porter Square.
Finally went and wish we had eaten here earlier. Glad too that we made online reservations for a saturday night. Food and wine menu is eclectic combination of French and Cambodian Decor pleasant, noise level was moderate, and service was very efficient. We ordered Salmon and a shrimp dish. Both delicious. Only suggestion might be to add more beets to your beet salad. Ample parking out back which is nice to find in Cambridge.

Look forward to returning.

“Great niche restaurant and food ”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 18, 2014 via mobile

The Elephant Walk is one of the few authentic high end French/Cambodian restaurants around. I have not been able to find one like this in the DC area despite a large Cambodian community. Our party of seven ordered several dishes, all delicious: the typically Cambodian Amok Royal, Crevettes Sur Mer (with tofu instead of shrimp), Crevettes Amrita with shrimp, and the Tofu with grilled veggies curried with a ginger sauce (our favorite). Excellent wine and the creme brûlée for dessert was delicious too. We didn't try any of the French dishes. Would gladly go back.

“Cambodian/French Fusion - Excellent”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 15, 2014

We had dinner here on the recommendation of a friend last week. What a treat! The dining room was interesting, calming and attractive. The service was attentive. They start you off with a half of a perfect French baguette. So many of the menu items sounded wonderful that it was hard to choose. Many of them can be made vegan and/or gluten free. I had a wonderful shrimp dish in a light satay sauce with button mushrooms, scallions and onions, accompanied by jasmine rice. It was excellent. My wife had pan seared organic tofu with grilled vegetables and a green ginger curry, which she also thought was excellent. Would go back in a minute next time we're in the area.

“Been back many times; great place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 6, 2014

I've eaten at the Elephant Walk many times and have always enjoyed it. The food is wonderfully prepared, and often unusual. Nothing I would cook at home. The atmosphere at the Cambridge restaurant is relaxing, and the service has been great every time I went. Highly recommend this place.

“Interesting Cambodian/French food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 27, 2014

Menu is great for the curious and adventurous, but also offers some classic French dishes. The chicken soup really hit the spot on a cold night. Service on this occasion was slow; they seemed short-handed.
