This restaurant serves innovative southern cuisine. We sampled the cornbread with sorghum butter, smoked beef tongue on toast, buttermilk biscuit with ham, pimento cheese and saltines, baked grits with bacon and cheese, and the catfish courtboullion. Everything was interesting and good. While I expected to be wowed by this restaurant, I can’t really say that anything was exceptional. It was a solid dining experience in a casual setting.

We met family and friends away from the main stream mostly for parking.

The restaurant is located in an older row house with a bar at the entrance. Although the bar only seats 8 or so, they have abroad selection of drinks.

We enjoyed a number of specialty dishes that were all well prepared. I picked a couple of local favorites. We started with the fried oysters, then the smoked pimento and cheese. They both were well prepared. The cheese was tasty, not like the pimento and cheese served at the Masters, but good. The pimento and cheese came with crackers, a biscuit had some tasty jelly.

For my main course, I had the shrimp and grits which were seasoned just right. Around the table, several items were tried. The steak was really enjoyed as well as the chicken. Too much food for desert.

We really enjoyed the selection. It is a small place so plan accordingly.

This cozy restaurant seems always to be full of happy eaters. We stopped in and grabbed a couple of bar stools since we couldn't get a reservation. No problem, the bartender was charming and knowledgable about her offerings, she took great care of us. With 5 beers on tap, we went with a superb IPA from San Diego that packed a tasty wallop. Wow! Moved on to the frisee salad with tiny green tomatoes and sugared walnuts and Wisconsin parmesan type cheese shards over it all. Delightful. Moved on to the escargot/grits dish and the veal cheeks/crispy sweetbreads. Both were lick the plate good. Desserts were very tempting but we decided to go with after dinner drinks instead and were very pleased with our choices: a "75" with sherry and corn liquor and a sweet Spanish red served slightly chilled. Topped it all off with wonderfully smooth macchiatos and the house "preacher" cookies. Can't wait to go back and try more of this excellent cooking.

We did not get off to a great start as the hostess was a bit standoffish. As we waited for our reservation to open we sat at the bar where I was asked to move from my seat as a couple was going to eat dinner at the bar, and not very pleasantly either.

After that, everything went uphill. The atmosphere was great. From apps to main course and through to dessert the food was incredible. Wonder flavors all around. Our waiter was attentive and well versed on the menu. Overall a great date/night out place

Extremely impressed with Hungry Mother--unique cocktails, kind and informative bartendar. I started with the Escargot appetizer that could possibly be the best escargot Ive ever had. Paired with a tasty malbec-merlot blend. Then I had an amazing lamb shank that melted in my mouth! Dessert didnt disappoint either. A must try, snd great date spot!
