Owner description: Mount Auburn Cemetery was founded in 1831 as America's first landscaped cemetery. A National Historic Landmark, its renowned landscape inspired the creation of the nation's public parks. Mount Auburn was designated an Important Bird Area by the Massachusetts Audubon Society, reinforcing its status as a significant wildlife sanctuary. Still an active burial place, Mount Auburn Cemetery provides comfort and solace to countless families. The Friends of Mount Auburn Cemetery was established in 1986 to assist in the conservation of the Cemetery's natural beauty and to promote the appreciation of its cultural, historic, and natural resources. Over 100 public programs are offered annually by the Friends to educate, enrich, and inspire the community. The Friends seeks financial support for education and interpretive programs and materials for the public, specific cultural projects, and operational support for horticultural rejuvenation and the preservation of the historic monuments, structures, and archival artifacts and records.

Mt. Auburn is an amazingly beautiful park of a cemetery. Wear your walking shoes and soak up the atmosphere and history. Lovely landscaping, and impressive monuments. Enjoyed our pilgrimage to find relatives' final resting places among the birds and towering trees. A trip here is perfect for contemplation and peacefulness.

This is a great spot to be quiet and hike the beautiful paths of this old Cambridge cemetery..The area is vast and extensive, with gorgeous stone monuments and headstones....Parking is allowed on designated roads...There is a watch tower with an excellent panoramic skyline view of Boston.

Some amazing historical, scholarly, or cultural celebs buried there, and some very lovely grounds and monuments. Get the guide and map at the visitors' center near the entrance. You can drive in and park, but note carefully where you can and cannot leave the car. Two warnings: it's very hilly, with many of the celeb markers hard to find; and the map you get is unwieldy and doesn't always seem to match up with where you are. It's on the 71 or 73 bus lines from Harvard sq. if you don't want to drive.

More a park than a cemetery, a lake, impressive array of flora, peaceful and beautiful. It's so huge a car is advised to visit it.
