Description: Today Pagnanelli offers the experience as restauranteurs of four generations. Still the same family running the restaurant founded by Giovanni Pagnanelli in 1882. A client recently commented “the formula of Pagnanelli’s success is a cocktail of passion and creativity with every family member giving his contribution”. In the sixties Aurelio Mariani (son of Lucia Pagnanelli) marries Jane Williams who leaves her career as an actress in classical theatre in Australia. For Jane and Aurelio their constant dedication along with their four sons encouraged them to constantly improve. Jane says that Pagnanelli is like a theatre, and as Shakespeare wrote: “ All the world’s a stage and all the men and women merely players”.

What a treat! I had the pleasure of dining at the restaurant for lunch a few weeks ago. It was a wonderful experience. They couldn't have been nicer-even took us on a tour of their wine cellar afterwards. The view was amazing. The food is" to die for". They use the freshest of local ingredients and combine them in the most innovative way! I would definitely go back!

The most expensive restaurant in Castel Gandolfo, just on the city limits (hard to park). Terraces overlooking the lake (great view) nice garden in the summer. Food is mostly fish, fresh but expensive. A little formal place, not for a fast trattoria like lunch/dinner but worth going for a special occasion.

We had been here before for lunch with a tour group and vowed that we would go back for dinner one day. Well, we made a special trip to Castel Gandolfo to do just that and unfortunately were a bit underwhelmed. It is very expensive and I just didn't think that what we had was worth it. We shared an antipasto called Vegetable Fantasy and although it was good, for 25 euros, was really only sufficient for one person. I was expecting tagliatelle with porcini mushrooms with truffles and it ended up being gnocchi which was okay, but I ended up only eating 1/3 of it as there was way too much and I got bored eating it more than anything. Maybe it was just the fact that we had spent 11 days on a cruiseship and we had had our fill of food and drink by then. Would try it again another time but wouldn't make a special journey like we did this time.

Family run restaurant, probably best / among the best restaurants in the Castel Candolfo area. Food very well prepared country food. Fish menu had lot of choices and we tasted few of various fish meals. All good, all plentiful. The portions were large (American-Italian size), so one needs to be really hungry in order to eat antipasti-primi-secondi.

The wine cellar is tremendous and worth visiting after dinner. All Italian regions represented, they said 3000 wine and 35000 bottles.
