Just returned from October weekend. A friendly welcome and approachable hosts. The house spotlessly clean, good size room and in genuinely quiet location. Good advice on local eateries and pubs. Lots to do in and around Mountshannon. Local people friendly. Good information and communication prior to visit - hosts kindly gave us bikes for a day to explore.
But less positive - walls thin between rooms, you could literally hear every movement from adjacent bedroom. We were lucky to have piercing snoring for only one of the three nights. The breakfast's may be hearty for meat eaters but half a tomato each and a couple of mushrooms to accompany scrambled egg were on the spartan side for non meat eaters. Also, for what was off-peak season no reduction whatsoever for three nights stay surprising. (To be fair to hosts, we had been told the rate beforehand). Ireland is very expensive for accomodation and price not excessive but value for money therefore neutral rather than exceptional.
This was our frank assessment. Better than OK but not excellent. My feeling was that the hosts were nearing the end of the season and may have took the eye of the ball on a few aspects. The more positive comments on the site do not surprise us and I think over the longer term this will be reviewed a desirable B&B - I would imagine particularly welcoming for families.

Hi guys , its December and only just got dried out!!!

Five of us stayed late July, fantastic family run B&B. Ursula, Noel and the girls made us very welcome, not forgetting Felix the dog!

Great place to make base camp to visit West Coast. Ring of Kerry can be done - long day - in a car,, but on a bike excellent full day ride.

A visit to Kilkenny would not be amiss, similar to York back home.

Tried making the bread - not as good as Ursula's!!

Advise anyone to stay if wanting a home from home experience.

I had a fabulous stay. Great hosts, nice room and a beautiful surrounding. Ursula and Noel are just great and Felix is very funny. The fireplace was so warm and cosy and the chat we had was very pleasant. Thank you very much again for this great stay, I certainly will be back, very soon hopefully. Grettings to all of you from Switzerland, Beatrice

Dear Ursula and Noel,
Thank you very much for the lovely time we spend with you in Hawthorn Lodge (B & B). We had a great holiday in a beautiful neighbourhood. It was a pleasure to be in a house with nice people with a great feeling for hospitality.
Your breaktfast is very good (Irish as well as continental). The familyroom is tastefull appointed; in short: a recommendable address!

Kind regards, Gerda & Hugo
