Myself and my partner stayed one night with the Hawthorn Lodge B&B while attending a friend's wedding. We received a warm welcome from Ursula and Noel and were given a charming and spacious bedroom. Along with a plethora of tourist information, we were given a delicious breakfast the following morning, which included a vegetarian and non-dairy option for my partner (we had forewarned them of dietary requirements by e-mail). We were invited to explore the garden and say hello to the farm animals and we had great conversations with our hosts. If you are looking for somewhere to stay in Clare with gorgeous scenery and friendly people, call the Hawthorn Lodge B&B!

We stayed in the west of Ireland for a week in May and took day trips to half the island from this fantastic village location on the Shannon river. Everything that Ireland has to offer is right outside the front door; golf, history, culture, dining, music and of course fishing. We had 5 star treatment in my opinion from the Hogan's our B&B host family. A full Irish breakfast every morning, lovely room with full private bath and every modern convenience. Free Wi-Fi, satellite TV if you want to use it. We loved the warm fire every evening in the sitting room. We came and left as we pleased, and if there was anything we needed the Hogan's know everything about the area. I don't know how our accommodations could have been better. We would come back again and again.

We stayed for just one night after staying a week in a local self catering house at the end of a disappointing week for weather and fishing. We were made instantly welcome by Noel and Ursula the hosts at Hawthorn. They are very friendly and helpful and are the type of people who make you feel instantly welcome. The house and bedrooms are immaculately clean and attention to detail is excellent. The house was very warm and the breakfast excellent. We both slept very well and the stay cheered us up after a very wet week in Eire. I would highly recommend Hawthorn Lodge for a stay and look forward to our next visit.

Hi Neil, Thanks a million for the fantastic review, you were very unlucky with the bad weather and where you were fishing as the White Tailed Eagles in Mountshannon seem to get lots of fish for their young Chick! It was lovely to chat to you both and you need all the comforts of home when you come in cold & tired after a day spent on the lake. We have the garage and fridge available for your gear & baits etc should you choose to stay with us for longer the next time! Take care & thanks again for taking the time & trouble to review us on Trip Advisor. Cheers Ursula & Noel.

Mountshannon is perfectly located to see the sites in western Ireland and the Hawthorn Lodge is a fantastic B&B. The room was spacious (with en suite bath) and could easily accommodate a family of 4-5. The breakfast was "full" Irish, though Ursula is very flexible and can vary based on taste, offering omelets, granola, yogurt, etc. Ursula and Noel are great hosts - very active in the community and very helpful with ideas for exploring the area (sea eagles have recently nested on an island in Lough Derg, ~5 minutes from the B&B, and a new chick is expected any day). Would definitely stay there again.

Thanks so much Steve for a glowing review, we do try to give our guests special attention and we try to be as flexible as possible to satisfy their requirements. It was a pleasure having you stay with us and we enjoyed our chats by the fire with you. We hope to see you and your family sometime again in Mountshannon. You'll be glad to hear our Eagles have hatched one chick this year so great excitement again. Take care & thanks again for choosing to stay with us. Ursula & Noel.

we stayed here already several times and will return for sure, as this is a wonderful B & B with a tasty breakfast. The rooms are spacious and the owner family is so friendly and helpful !
The B & B is a 5 minutes walk away from Lough Derg, the nice lake where you can see sea eagles. Attractions like the Burren with the Poulnabrone Dolmen and the cliffs of Moher are easy to reach by car. We can really recommend the Hawthorn Lodge B&B !

Thank you very much for going to the trouble of writing a wonderful review and it is such a bonus to see our guests returning to us as it means we are providing a good service. Your so right there is so much to see & do within an easy distance of here. Lots of new flights into Shannon this year so it's getting very accessible now! Take care & thanks again. Ursula & Noel.

Birding near Mountshannon.

Returning home from a long weekend birding along the western shore of Lough Derg my group of eight from Northern Ireland have great memories of looking at White-tailed Eagles in flight and sitting on a favourite perch out on a small wooded island in the lake. Apart from the birds the highlight of our stay must be the warm welcome we received at Hawthorn Lodge B&B and the extent that Ursula Hogan went to in making our visit and stay there so very special. The B&B is extremely comfortable and those breakfasts were a real treat. Thank you.

The Sea Eagles are such a rarity in this Country it's wonderful to have them on our doorstep and I hope they will bring many more Bird watchers like yourselves! We look forward to seeing you all again sometime. Best wishes Ursula & Noel.

a very warm place, run with passion and attention to details. very quite, despite being close to the road, but only 1/2 km away from a nice small Irish village.
very close to the Lake, but not in the most touristic settlements . thus mantains a clear identity and personality.
the best full Irish breakfast that we had in Ireland, with much home-made stuff.

the kindness of the owners, Ursula and Hogan, is simply a distillate of all the beauties of Irish people.
highly suggested.
