We were ready for a meal... about 3pm, on our way back west to Skogarfoss. We had seen "Hotel Anna" on our way out to Dyrholaey earlier that morning. We only remembered it because my fiancee is also named Anna. On a whim, we passed by Skogar to have lunch here. It was delicious.

The fish of the day was arctic char - amazing. The soups were great - I had a bacon and potato soup, and while I can't recall what Anna had, she seemed to like it! The dessert was a chocolate cake of some sort... very good.

Our waitress was very nice. A young woman from Romania who is spending the summer in Iceland. We traded stories on places to visit in Iceland.

Very pleasantly surprised given our selection criteria - it had the same name as my fiancee.

We went here on a night in late March. There really are not many/any choice in this area for dinner during the wintertime, but I think we still would have gone to this restaurant. The menu is simple, but the home cooked soup, bread and entrees were delicious. Dessert was a bit lacking in originality, but the tea and coffee offered were nice. It is Iceland, so meals aren't cheap. It was around $50/person.

We visited the south coast for a few days in mid-April and Country Hotel Anna was one of the few restaurants open for business in the area. It's a set menu - soup, lamb/fish main plus tea/coffee (cost KR 4500-5100). We ordered one lamb and one cod and were very happy with our meals. The homemade bread was delicious, as were our mains. We tried other restaurants along the south coast of Iceland, and haven't had another meal as good as the one at Anna until we arrived Reykjavik.

Dinner at this country hotel was included in a glacier hike/northern lights tour from Iceland Mountain Guides. After trekking around Sólheimajökull glacier for 3 hours we were plenty hungry. Our guide explained that this would be the best lamb soup we had ever eaten….likely true as very few of us had ever eaten lamb soup. That being said, the soup was delicious. There was also a vegetarian option (tomato) for those who lean that way. There was a bar so you could get a cold beer or glass of wine. They also served a delicious homemade rye bread with fresh butter. The bread dissappeared quite quickly and was replaced just as quickly. Although I can’t verify, it is likely that the bread (and everything else) was cooked geothermally which might explain the moist character of the bread. Should you find yourself on the lonely stretch of highway 246 on the southern coast of Iceland, stop in for a nice hot bowl of lamb soup and some rye bread, you won’t be dissappointed.

We stopped here for dinner as we were staying at the nearby Welcome Hotel Lambafell and are so glad we did. Lovely warm, homely restaurant with delicious food. Included in the price of the main meal was a bowl of the best vegetable soup I've ever had and homemade bread. I had salmon and my husband horse for the main and both were well cooked and very tasty. If you are in the area, definitely plan a stop here.
