A welcoming comfortable hotel. Rather small rooms- we were on the south overlooking the river (better view) and by a hot (actually a little cool) tub. Excellent food - we dined in the restaurant 2 nights. An upstairs lounge we only discovered on the 2nd night. Very efficient staff. We did see the lights, but we re-named the the Northern Glow, as we saw a light green ish glow from the north, with the occasional light beam. Yes- photos after long exposure look fine, but actual viewing underwhelming. But cant blame the hotel for that!

Room Tip: We preferred having the view and access to the tubs

Unfortunately we didn"t see the lights but this hotel is worth a visit but just for one night as it is very expensive and nothing to do.
The food is excellent though, the service is good, mostly Polish.

We stayed here for the first part of our honeymoon. The staff is very nice, helping us decide on what to do and what sights we should see. We stayed in the "Africa" suite after booking a honeymoon package and upgrading. It was STUNNING. Secluded, rustic, and a wonderful place to stay if you want to see more than just the city.

We stayed here for 4 nights in January February 2014 in the hope of seeing the northern lights. we weren't disappointed. We had a South facing room which wasnt ideal when looking out for the lights. The weather was dreadful, but that just added to the warm cosy log cabin atmosphere. we ate in the restaurant only one night as its very expensive, the other nights we had bar food. Whilst expensive the restaurant food was very good, real foodie gourmet stuff. Make sure you have good footwear as the car park was like a skating rink. Also people in the hot tub could be quite noisy which you can hear from your room.

Spent two nights here for our 30th wedding anniversary. The hotel is easily found and in a beautiful location. We had booked a deluxe room but the hotel kindly upgraded us to a junior suite. We were allocated the Asia suite which has a Japanese theme. It sounds ungrateful to say that the room was not at all comfortable. The bed was very hard and there is nowhere for (non Japanese) people to sit comfortably. However, the hotel itself is excellent. It is clean and very well presented. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The owner is a wonderful chap, friendly, helpful and willing to give advice and guidance. The food here is excellent. The breakfast choice is superb and certainly sets you up for the day. I would strongly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: The deluxe rooms are more than sufficient and comfortable.

This was our first stop as part of a 9 day visit to Iceland and it was a good start. The hotel is cosy and rustic, like a ski lodge so don't expect uber chic luxury. We debated whether to upgrade our room based on other reviews but we were barely in our room - only there to shower and sleep so were perfectly happy with a standard room. The standard rooms also have a jacuzzi in the bathroom so you won't miss out on hot tub action. Try not to get a standard room above no 28 because they face the car park and the headlights may come straight into your window.

The food was good - breakfast was fine - standard fare. Dinner was consistently good, especially the lamb dish - it was the best we tasted out of all the lamb we tried in Iceland. Sure it isn't cheap but you also don't have many options!

We would recommend staying here as part of a trip to the south coast - it is amazing and shouldn't be missed!

We stayed here 2 nights as part of our "Northern Lights Special" trip booked through Discover The World.
When arriving check in for our coach party was very quick.
Room was comfy and warm and everything very clean and in working order.
Our standard room had a door opening out onto decking at back of the hotel where the hot tub sat which was very good to use on a cold'ish evening.
Our fixed menu each evening was part of our package and the food was very tasty and plenty of it.
Drinks were expensive but I guess nothing out of ordinary for Iceland.
Northern Lights made an appearance in middle of our evening meal the first night.
The hotel keeps the car park lights off so you can see better as that's the direction facing North.
The hotel is far enough out of Reykjavik not to suffer too much from light pollution and certainly many stars were visible but to be honest we'd been in darker places in the UK.
The hotel does wake up calls for rooms if the lights show themselves after bedtime and we were woken later at 1am for another brief viewing!
My top tips for Aurora piccies would be take a decent camera which you can set long shutter speeds on, take a tripod too, my mistake in not bothering, and before you go learn how to use your cameras functions in the dark too!
Our tour guide got some pretty good pictures.
Great hotel would definitely stay again.
