Description: Rangá restaurant is an acclaimed gourmet restaurant overlooking one of Iceland's finest salmon rivers, East-Rangá River. The restaurant's motto is the concept of a "Farmers Market" - in effect using predominantly local ingredients of the highest quality and freshness - following seasonal availability. The menu is inspired by modern Nordic cuisine. The world renowned Christmas Buffet with European and Scandinavian gourmet dishes is available November to December every year. The wine list and bar selection is extensive and is sure to satisfy even the most demanding connoisseur.

We ate at the Ranga while on vacation in Iceland, also staying at the Ranga Hotel. We are seasoned travelers and have spent a great deal of time both for work and pleasure in the Nordics. Although the Ranga might not stand up to the best restaurants in a city like NY or London, it was very good and we would recommend it happily. All four of us ordered the arctic char. We found the portions sizable, the preparation excellent, and the service first rate. It was our first dinner meal in Iceland and a very welcome introduction.

We had insisted with our agency to stay in this hotel since it looked as one of the best in iceland

we didn't regret it at all and wished we could have stayed more than 3 days.

the rooms are correct, the beds are very good. But don't expect the kind of decoration you can find in 4 stars boutik hotels in Europe.

but :

the owner, and his staff is dedicated to give you a good time in Iceland
the restaurant is very good , with experienced fish cooking
and the place is well situated to be entertained for a whole week

we will come back.

We've just stopped at Rangá looking for a meal and what we got was a banquet. The restaurant was completely empty at 3pm, but the staff was lovely serving a fantastic lunch. The kids menu was a plus. Our 10 years old had a burger and we had mushroom soup, seafood soup, salad and the fish of the day. The desserts were also gourmet. The final touch was the beautiful view. Great experience.

Hotel Ranga Restaurant is one of the best in Iceland. It is a gourmet restaurant with astonishing view over the landscape around. The house and the furnishing is stylish and inviting. The main courses tried by our group were fish of the day which was always excellent, the cod and the Ranga salmon were also excellent, and the langustine tails dinner was a real treatment for your soul. I have to add that one of my friends took a vegetarian steak and found it very good. Reindeer carpaccio as a starter is something to recommend strongly. The service was very good and the wines that were recommended to accompany the courses were excellent.

A surprise awaited us when we were booked by our travel agent into this 4 star hotel and restaurant, while travelling around Iceland.

We were very pleasantly surprised by the excellent food, very carefully prepared, and the good service. The fresh fish was beautifully cooked, flavours very delicate and well balanced.

Sadly, like all meals in Iceland, this is very expensive, and the wine prices are exorbitant. That is probably not the fault of this particular restaurant, though.

Lovely setting, overlooking open field, river and snow capped mountains in the distance. Hotel itself is a decent 4 star, feels like a country lodge in the public spaces - lots of wood, complete with some stuffed animals (including a giant polar bear). Rooms are basic.
