First I will thank You again for a wonderful ridingcourse
and vacation.
>
It was just great and I still feel very good.
The ridingcourse included all that I want.
Good ridinglessons with a great teacher.
Two ridingtours outside.
Visiting other horsefarms and the show
we were at in Reykjavik.
To see many of your horses and hear about
Your breeding was fun.
And, of course, really good food and relaxing
in hot tub.
>
I hope I can join a course like this at Your place
again.

We strongly advise Hestheimar as a family hotel, because of the kindness of the owners, the delicious homemade food and the beautiful setting. In addition you can enjoy a horseride in the countryside with the famous Icelandic horses (5 gears ;-). A wonderful experience for both adults and kids. At Hestheimar, instead of being at a hotel, you feel as if you were a family guest.
Not to miss when you are visiting Iceland!

Room Tip: Instead of a pool, they have an outdoor hotpot that is accessible all day. Filled with natural hot t...

Stayed here for 1 night as part of a stay to Iceland- selected the cottage option as it offered windows on all 4 sides for northern light watching !
On the plus side;
• Rural, remote location- ideal for northern light spotting
• Friendly, ‘family run’ atmosphere
• Meals available in the main hotel building
I notice that a small number of reviews are negative as they refer to ‘bunk bed’/ sleeping bag accommodation. The Hestemeir offers a range of accommodation types, from detached cottages, the hotel and yes, above a stable where there are budget sleeping bag/ bunk bed accommodation. However, please note, if you stay in the cottages or hotel it is nice B&B type accommodation so don’t worry about the couple of negative reviews who stayed in the stables.

Would I stay here again, yes, although I’d probably stay in the main hotel as you can sit awaiting the northern lights in their restaurant area so you don’t really need the cottage for that purpose.

Room Tip: Go for a cottage if you like space and rural location

Family holiday in Iceland, we spent 3 nights at this family run cottage/horse farm. We loved every minute of it! Great hosts who pampered us with food, warmth and comfortable rooms. Fantastic view from the hotpot in the backyard too! A true gem, we would go back without any hesitation.

We stayed here for 2 nights with a group of families. The welcome was very nice and we will still speak about the great food at breakfast and dinner. During our stay it was very very cold, so we needed to eat a bit more. We took a horseride trip on the farm and halfway we stopped at a barn. We were all frozen to death and at 1100 in the morning we were drinking some heavy grog to get warm again. We have just booked another stay at this place, can't wait to go back. If you go with kids, there is enough to do to keep them busy.
The B&B itself is so cosy, you'd actually can imagine living there. Very often people say : home away from home but I never got this close than at Hestheimar in Hella, Iceland.

Room Tip: If you have kids and you want them to play with other kids, you better book a room in the B&B an...

As most guests staying at Hestheimar (well, I suppose!), we wanted to go there to ride Icelandic horses. We were first greeted by one of the employees, who rode in our car to show us were the cottage was. As it is not a high tourism season, we had the whole cottage to ourselves, which was very nice! It's a very charming accomodation, with wooden accents and a rustic décor. The bed was comfortable, but I have to say I found the sheets a little rough.

The employee told us they would deliver a breakfast basket in the evening, and it did not disappoint! It was full of homemade products! We were also happy that this arrangement would let us wake up without the alarm clock (in other guesthouses, breakfast is served at a given time)!

We told her we would be interested to ride horses but didn't know exactly when. She came back later to say another guest was doing an 1-hour horseride, and we were welcome to come along. We thought it was a nice attention and gladly joined. The surroundings are very beautiful, which made the horseride even more enjoyable!

We also used the hot tub outside, and it was very very hot! We didn't stay too long but it was a very nice perk nonetheless!

We stayed here for one rainy, cold day/night in September. Unfortunately, the weather precluded us from taking a horse ride, but we enjoyed our stay nonetheless. The farm is situated in a location that is central to many tourist attractions in southeast Iceland: Gulfoss, Geysir, etc... It is also very close to several towns where you can catch the bus to Thorsmork, so it makes a great launching point for the rest of the region.

Our room had a double bed, which, in the Icelandic tradition, was two twin beds pushed together. The shower had plenty of hot water, and the room was clean and well-maintained. I would recommend a room with a private bathroom because the price difference is insignificant, and with the inclement weather in Iceland it's nice to unwind with a hot shower at the end of the day without worrying about competing with your bathroom-mates.

The meals were the highlight of our stay at Hestheimar. The kitchen/dining room is a beautiful area with a vaulted ceiling and large windows that command good views of the surrounding fields and supposedly mountains on a clear day. All meals were family style. The portions were generous, and the food was delicious and healthy for the most part. We were served lamb meatballs for dinner, and our breakfast was an eclectic buffet. The homemade bread served at both meals was phenomenal.

The staff and owners were polite and respectful, and very helpful when asked for assistance.

Hopefully we can come stay here again when the weather is more amenable to a horseback trip.
