We spent our last night in Iceland here and it was a surprising pleasure. The hotel is next to the Blue Lagoon and only 20 mins from the airport so I was expecting something basic but this was a delight. The hotel itself had various lounges with games, chess etc. Free coffee and tea and An honesty bar with large comfy sofas. The staff were friendly and helpful. They were aware of my nut allergy and asked if it was ok to serve muesli at breakfast for the other guests. They provided breakfast for us at 4.45 am which was great as we had an early flight. They also woke us as requested twice in the night to see the Northern Lights. It was a short night! They had special towels for guests to take to the Blue Lagoon which meant we did nt have to pack wet towels. We had enjoyed dinner which was served by friendly staff, the explained the schnapps and tried to persuade us to have a traditional Icelandic licorice but managed a (Black Death)Brennivin instead. We had a lovely last night in Iceland in what was a surprising nice hotel in a very convenient location.

What an awesome experience. Thank you so much. Do not forget the views - the view from my daughters room of a floor of volcanic rock was amazing. My room facing the car park was also fantastic. I looked out into the black dark Icelandic night with the wind howling and no light pollution. Amazing. Remember its a geothermal power plant - not a nuclear power station !!

Fabulous rooms with great bed and bedding. Super clean and comfortable. Modern, practical, but super comfy warm rooms. Communal areas of the Inn smelt fab too.
Great meal in the restaurant. Served by friendly staff who couldnt do enough for you. Honesty bar with leather settees
Fantastic location next to the Blue Lagoon. Very reasonable price especially for Iceland.

Room Tip: Personally I think all rooms are good.

We spent one night here, purely for the purpose of visiting the Blue Lagoon (this and the access to keflavik airport is the reason people stay) As has been said it's next to a Geothermal Power Plant so the view is of chimneys and lots of water vapour, with an addition of a slight sulphurous smell, it's also located in the middle of a volcanic lava field so no good sight seeing. On the plus side it's a short journey to the Blue Lagoon and the food is fantastic!!!

I really loved this hotel but probably more so because my partner proposed to me while we were there. But, it was the perfect setting-the hotel is cosy and the rooms are really nicely decorated. I can honestly say that I've never slept as well as I did at the Northern Light Inn-the beds were just so comfy! And it was the perfect base for our day at the Blue Lagoon as it was only a 10 minute walk there and they came and picked us up on the way back. We ate at the hotel in the evening and were so pleased we did-the food was amazing! There is a good selection at breakfast too, which set us up nicely for our flight home.

The staff were all very helpful and pleasant and the hotel had nice views of the Lava fields. Overall, a very good hotel, which is perfect for Blue Lagoon and easy access to the airport. We will definitely stay there again when we go back to Iceland.

Most people are here for the Blue Lagoon next door. The inn has a shuttle that takes guests to the Blue Lagoon, and to the airport which is not far away. The inn itself is pleasant, nice view of the lava field, cozy common seating areas, nice breakfast buffet, and Northern lights wake up call service (if you are lucky). I find little reason however to stay in this little town unless you're here for the Blue Lagoon next door. For those who don't care about swimming in this man-made lagoon, know that you can access the Blue Lagoon facilities to take pictures, walk around, enjoy the view, their restaurant, etc. But if you set your heart on the Blue Lagoon and could not reserve a room there (it seems packed at all times), this inn will do it nicely for you.

Who would have thought that a comfortable, modern, friendly hotel would be found next door to a huge geothermal plant in the middle of a vast lava field? Welcome to the Northern Lights Inn!

On arrival, its very daunting/boarder line worrying as your eyes totally bypass the hotel and focus only on the geothermal plant; then you realise that this massive building, clearly in production, that you are looking at is totally silent! It doesn't compute and then it becomes fascinating.

The Northern Lights Inn itself is a clean, modern, well maintained hotel with very friendly, helpful staff that provides a free shuttle service to/from the airport and the Blue Lagoon (must go to attraction) whenever you want. They offer a 'wake up' service should the Northern Lights make an appearance so you don't miss them; we were woken up and were therefore fortunate to witness this breath taking spectacle. We stood on the hotels patio drinking hot chocolate that was complimentary and readily available! Perfect!

Our room was very clean, comfortable and spacious with an amazing lava landscape view.
The restaurant was light and airy and served the most delicious cod ever tasted, but the menu was limited; the choices were 3/4 different fish dishes, one lamb and one vegetarian dish. Due to its remote location, guests only stay generally for 1-3 nights which is probably why the menu doesn't vary much but if you do not like lamb or fish you'll be in trouble!

We stayed for three nights and had a thoroughly relaxing enjoyable time but for us personally , the three nights were long enough.

The charming Northern Light Inn sits in Iceland’s picturesque southwest on the Reykjanes Peninsula, a prime-aurora viewing location. The hotel has a 360° degree observation lounge, allowing you to marvel at the aurora in comfort. The light and airy rooms amidst a surreal lava landscape offer supremely comfortable beds and cozy Icelandic down comforters. The hotel is just a lava rock’s throw from the Blue Lagoon, a 15 min easy walk or free shuttle to/from the Blue Lagoon. Healthy, hearty and home-cooked meals from freshest ingredients can be enjoyed in the panoramic restaurant with spectacular view over the lava landscape and geothermal power plant. The very friendly staff and Max will make you feel right at home. The Northern Light Inn is my choice for “home-away from home”!
