The staff at the hotel were great. They picked us up from the airport at 3 am and drove us to the hotel where a very clean room awaited us. Later, they drove us to the Blue Lagoon and picked us up a few hours later and returned us to the airport. We slept great at the hotel and they had a nice breakfast available. They made our layover in Iceland great.

We have stayed at the Northern Light Inn during numerous short stays in Iceland. It is a simple but thoughtfully designed Inn with beautiful views of lava fields and low hills (and hopefully the Northern Lights during the right season). It has a simple restaurant menu, but the dining room has gorgeous soaring glass windows and the food is excellent. The buffet breakfast (included) is also simple but very, very nice and the perfect start to a day of hiking or a trip to the Blue Lagoon. The rooms are spacious, always clean and feature lovely fluffy white duvets, a few Icelandic chocolates and always a nice hot shower (Iceland is powered by geothermal energy). Near the foyer there are several open-plan rooms, and a viewing room upstairs, where guests can relax with a cup of tea or a drink. There are lots of small but thoughtful touches around the Inn. It feels well-cared for and fresh (though be prepared for the scent of sulfur which permeates the air in this part of Iceland). The proprietress is always on premises and oversees a growing staff of helpful and friendly waiters, receptionists, drivers and cleaners. The Inn offers the huge benefit of free transfers by van to and from the airport and they will, on request, take you over to the Blue Lagoon and collect you when you ask the BL staff to call. The BL, a man-made hot spring which uses extra water pumped from the ground by the nearby geothermal power plant, is a luxurious treat and a must-do for anyone visiting in the vicinity. The power plant itself sits behind the Inn and makes for a fascinating view from the restaurant with it's clean lines, stainless steel, 'portholes' and and huge steam clouds. The Inn is a really cool place and so is Iceland!

Room Tip: We've never had a bad room, but if you have a special request, email the Inn and ask them about...

We picked this hotel for our first night in Iceland due to its proximity to the airport. We had an overnight flight and knew we would be too tired to do too much on our first day. The hotel was able to get us our rooms a bit earlier than the normal check in and in the meantime we relaxed at the Blue Lagoon just a couple kilometers away.

The rooms are very nice and clean. We had dinner in the restaurant that night, which on Sunday is an all you can eat lamb dinner. It was incredible.

We definitely would recommend this hotel and restaurant.

Spent our last day here after a 5 day self drive tour. Hotel is located close to Blue Lagoon and Airport with a free shuttle to both. Rooms are large and well appointed. Restaurant food and service couldn’t have been better. The lounge area was very comfortable with plenty of chairs and sofas and also an honor bar.

We choose this hotel at the last minute for its access to Keflavik airport and favorable reviews on Trip Advisor. Good choice given its unlikely location next to a large geothermal power plant. Quirky but very interesting moonscape setting that was unexpectedly appealing. Close to Blue Lagoon (which should be skipped - see my review on that). Extremely clean and more than adequate lodging for the price. Free shuttle services to the Lagoon and airport made it even more economically attractive. This is our "go to" hotel near the airport on our future visits to Iceland.

We visited for 10 days and did a self drive tour of the South. This was our most favourite hotel. The staff were exceptionally friendly and the food we had was most reasonable and delicious. The hotel was very clean and nice decorated. The only downside I could say is we wish we had booked more than one night here.

Loved this hotel. Very helpful staff as we arrived late and lovely large room with very comfy pillows. Great honesty bar and a fab view of the geothermal plant at breakfast. Don't let this put you off!
