“Perfect location for the Blue Lagoon and the northern lights - if you are lucky.”
Reviewed November 29, 2011

The staff were particularly helpful, but remember to let them know that you wish to be woken should the 'lights' appear when you are asleep.

Stayed for 4 nights at the Northern Light Inn. The staff are really welcoming and will go out of their way to help you out.
Food was outstanding - 3 of the nights had a menu where you paid for the main course and the buffet starter and small chocie of desserts were included. Fish of the day changed each day and the lamb was the best I've ever had. Only complaint - the portion servings are just a bit too big.
The rooms were fine - geothermal hot water in the bathrooms and eider down duvets on the beds. NO complaints.
The viewing tower was where quite a few of us would spend a lot of the nights on the look out for Aurora.

Room Tip: If you want to be woken up for the Aurora - ask at reception.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 3 nights November 10th 2011.

We booked through discover the world and everything was just perfect.

The hotel picked us up from the airport around 4pm, arrived at the hotel at about 4.30 ish, got the key to our room (number 24) first impressions walking through the hotel was great. It all looks so cozy and nice.

We unpacked our things and had a glass of wine (we bought 3 bottles of wine and 12 bottles of lager from the duty free shop) Although we are not big drinkers we had heard how expensive it is for alcohol, so thought it best to get some wine at the airport

The room was spacious, and clean, comfy bed and lovely duvets. The maid came every day we were there.

When we arrived at the hotel the lady explained where the blue lagoon was and how we got there etc.

Yes there is a big power station, which might be a little unsightly but this is not noisy or smelly, and if it wasnt there then the blue lagoon wouldnt be there.

We went on an excursion, the golden circle, booked through discover the world but this can be booked at www.re.is or google Reykjavik excursion.

If like us you want to explore Reykjavik the best and most simple way is to get the hotel to take you to the blue lagoon and then get the bus from there. the last bus back is 6pm. getting back to the hotel about 7.

We had 1 meal in the hotel, i had fish and my boyfriend had chicken, both were delicious.

Breakfast is ok for 3 days but may get a little boring after that, plently of choice of continental meats though.

Unfortuntaly didnt see the northern lights but would love to go back next year...

I would recommend going to the blue lagoon the morning you fly home as this is more than enough time, as you probably only need a morning there.

My partner and I have stayed at the inn many times over the last seven or eight years and whilst the inn has grown, the friendly welcome and attention to care has not changed at all. Kristjana and the team leave you to enjoy the peace and quiet, but are on hand if needed.

The inn is next to the Geothermal power station, but this all adds to the atmosphere of your surroundings; Iceland can be raw and this is part of it and doesn't ditract from the peacefulness of the stay.

Breakfasts are plentiful and included in the price. LIfts to and from Keflavki airport which is only fifteen minutes away are complimentary, as are shuttles to the Blue Lagoon, though this is only a twenty minute walk.

The rooms are clean, comfortable and very cosy. Lava restaurant at the Blue Lagoon does good lunch and dinners, but the inn's own restaurant is excellent and well-priced by Icelandic standards.

I've given five for location because it's located superbly for peace and a restful stay, with the added bonus that the Northern Lights may appear. We have often stayed in Reykjavik then the inn before flying home, but a long weekend hear will seriously let you relax.

My husband and I stayed here for just one night, but would happily have stayed longer. The Inn impressed us with it clean, cozy warmth. The setting is surreal and the initial smell of sulphur somewhat off putting, but we quickly grew accustomed to the very comfortable surroundings. Our room was spacious and bright with a very comfy bed and large bathroom with new contemporary fixtures.
The staff were very friendly and offered to drive us to and from the Blue Lagoon any time we wished.
Dinner was great. During our meal the dining room suddenly emptied, so we followed everyone outside to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights, a bonus experience we did not expect.
We loved all the cozy lounges tucked around the inn with large comfy chairs, reading lamps, and a self serve bar.
It is an odd location to say the least, but we got into the strange whimsy of it and took full advantage of the closeness of the Blue Lagoon, catching sunset from the thermally heated water there on our first evening and then walking the path through the lava fields for a second dunking the next morning.
I recommend this Inn and would certainly return if the occasion arose.

Maybe I was too cursory in my review, but the setting was too industrial for my expectation...and taste. The inn is next to a geothermal electricity generating facility that is UGLY (though totally quiet). Additionally, the sulfur odor was too extreme to open the window for 'fresh' air, at night.

That said, if your expectations are set correctly, it's a very nice place. It's relatively new, comfortable, well maintained, close to the airport and very friendly. The restaurant is excellent!

Really friendly, helpful staff. Great food for reasonable prices.
Breakfast good. They provided breakfast for us at 5:45 because we had an early flight even though it was supposed to be open at 7:00!
Huge, comfortable rooms (no mini bar), excellent shower in smallish bathroom.
Very clean and modern. Comfortable beds.
Didn't see the northern lights but they have a great viewing area upstairs if you're lucky enough to get to see them.
Close to airport (15 mins) with free bus.
Would definitely stay here again.
