Stopped in before heading to Reykjavik after spending a couple of nights at the Blue Lagoon. Johann pointed us to a large pot of serve yourself lobster soup. Excellent. Had two bowls. Chocolate cake was good too. Nice conversation, good tunes, great atmosphere. We're planning on making a detour just to stop back in on our way to the airport next week.

After arriving at the airport early in the morning, we picked up our rental car and headed towards Grindavik for a circle tour on our way to Reykavik. We found ourselves at the Bryggjan shortly after 8, looking for some breakfast and coffee. The very friendly owner apologized for not really doing breakfast at this hour...but he would happily scare up some toast and the coffee was ready.
Sounds great, says us. Sipping coffee whilst enjoying the view and reviewing a map, we're a little surprised some ten minutes later to see the owner enter via the front door vs. from the kitchen....and he has a grocery bag.
Lo and behold, he has decided we should have a breakfast (perhaps we look unhealthy).
Moments later, plates of ham and cheese, toast, tubs of Skyr, and orange juice appear. The coffee is fantastic. And then waffles with home made blueberry jam and whipped butter.
We're astonished. Between food trips, he brings books in english that may interest us. My wife asks how much for a book that she finds interesting, and he signs it and insists that she take it as a gift. It's pretty overwhelming.
I have never, anywhere, experienced such hospitality. It was more than I could have or would have hoped for anywhere in the world.
What a fantastic start to our trip!!
Thank you Sir!!!

Great for a quick cheap lunch in good company. We had 'skipsoup' basically any veg thrown in with chicken. Bread too, eat as much soup as you like for about £5 (cheap by icelandic standards). Then have home made snickers meringue for dessert. This is about all they do but its great for somewhere cheap to warm up with abowl of good soup and bread.Get to it by going straight down to the harbour, turn left and its almost at the end, on the waterfront.

This is a low key place with home made bread and lobster soup (more like a bisque) on a table where you serve yourself. It was delicious and prfect for a cool day after visiting the Blue Lagoon. Definitely worth a visit.

Stopped for a last meal in Iceland and it was a exellent choice. Delicious food, charming atmosphere and very, very Icelandic. I could have stayed all day --- and stayed as long as I could before having to get to the airport. This will definitely be on my next visit, both when I arrive and leave.
Had a wonderful time chatting with the owner and a Scottish patron. This is what Iceland is about. Takk!
