Recently got back from a long weekend in Iceland and our lunch in Salthusid was one of many culinary highlights. The charming log cabin structure welcomes you and invites you inside. Once seated, you'll appreciate their decision to sacrifice a few tables to preserve the spacious, yet still cozy feeling of the space. The food had a hearty home cooked feel. The fish was very fresh, which is what you'd expect from a fishing village.
I was not able to get Icelandic addresses to show up correctly in Google Maps, so if you want to locate this gem use the coordinates: 63.844672,-22.43301. Also, it was instantly recognizable from the picture on their website (http://www.salthusid.is/English/).

When we were in Reykjavik, we asked some Waitpersons in restaurants about the practice of not tipping, and were told that it has more to do with Icelanders refusing to tip than with Waitstaff not wanting to receive tips.

Sooooo, when we went to the fabulous Salthusid Restaurant in Grindavik, after the Blue Lagoon, and had the most amazing shrimp, cod fish and chips and wild Atlantic salmon dinners (4 of us), I cornered our Waitress after paying the bill and forced a 15% gratuity on her, after apologizing and explaining that I did not mean to offend in anyway. She was both gracious and grateful. First off, when it comes to eating fish in Iceland, people need to understand that whatever you may think of the availabiity of whale meat, the reality is that Iceland currently has probably THE most sustainably managed cod fishery in the world. If you have been reading about fishing down the food chain and sworn off sushi as a result, then you can feel better about the cod on the menu, here, and Salthusid is the place to eat it. The sides with the mains, of veggies, and the desserts were outstanding. The baked potato and the fries were to die for. Portions were extremely generous and this was good value, even in pricey Iceland, though prices have dropped compared with what some of my friends who travelled here in past years have told me about them.

If it's a choice being going to the Blue Lagoon and this Resto, you might want to toss a coin (just kidding), but seriously, this is a must eat here destination in a beautful location and log cabin structure. Head to the Blue Lagoon and then here.
